Veterenarian??

I've had my cham now for about 2 months and his life is fantastic and very well regulated so that he is happy and healthy. I am hoping that he stays this way, however.....

Are there any owners who haven't gone to the veterenian. I'm not saying let the cham suffer, but are there any chams that just go their lives without illness or the need for medical help, or can there illnesses be corrected by myself.

other than the occasional fecal. which i take in myself without the chameleon. i have a cpl of falys that ive never taken in to see the actual vet physically. just get periodic fecals done to make sure all is ok before a problem makes itself known. If you bought a healthy cham and stay on top of your husbandry and keep things clean then he/she may never have to actually see a vet in their lifetime.

Very well said. Out of all my chameleons, I have only had a few that needed veterinarian care.

Some animals go their whole lives without needing a vet but you should still have some funds for the vet if an emergency arises that can't be remedied at home. I keep a little bit in a savings account that is only used for emergency vet trips.

I believe in taking all my animals for well checkups. The vet often sees upcoming health issues that can be treated before the animal gets sick and with chameleons that's very important. Often by the time a chameleon starts showing signs of sickness it's too late. My chameleon vet is Dr. Ivan Alfonso one of the best chameleon vets, if not the best in the US and he recommends a check up for a chameleon every 6 months. I get fecals more often because if your chameleon eats he can and often does get parasites.

All of mine have gone in for one reason or another. If I see something that I don't think I can handle on my own (I have years of vet clinic/hospital volunteer hours so I'm familiar with how to do a few minor things) I go in to the vet, I rather have a professional check them out than to lose them.

At this point though, I've acquired such a collection of meds and antibiotics that all I need to do now if get the dose specs from my vet over the phone and I can treat it at home without having to go in, which is a plus. And cheaper. But I always go to the vet if I think anything's wrong.
