Veterinary Visits - Financial Aid + Help

Hi All!
So last week I had to take my baby girl in to get egg removal surgery and have her spayed due to complications and her not being able to lay her eggs. Of course this was very costly, and I was super stressed about $ and not being able to afford the surgery. I just wanted to put it out there, my (awesome) vet showed me this company CareCredit (www.carecredit.com) - you can sign up online and they instantly approve you and give you a downloadable version of your card to print and use right away - it's basically a 6 month interest free credit card that you can only use at veterinary and human health offices. I just wanted to put it out there in case any one else found themselves in the bind I was in last week !

Happy Chameleoning ! :D

We caught it early and treated it aggressively with IV fluids, antibiotics, anti nausea meds, and pepsin, then labs and Xrays it cost me $818. I've had lots of dogs but I'm extremely close to this one. He's my world.

Yes we actually had a crazy experience, we caught it later, he all of a sudden started acting very lethargic and wouldnt eat, took him to Tufts (one of the best animal hospitals in the states) and they wrongly diagnosed him and tried to force feed him (which was actually killing him!) after two days of no change we took him home and to our local vet where they immediately diagnosed and treated him - and voila !

We've had lots of dogs too, but same scenario, the one (Baloo) who got pancreatitis was our absolute world, I would have lived in a box to save him :)

I lost my 5 1/2 year old yorkie to it in Feb....he had it bad and went diabetic on top of it. In one and a half weeks we spent over four thousand dollars to try to save him between our vet and the Univ. Of FL. Vet. Hosp. Still grieving but if it hadn't been for Care Credit we wouldn't have been able to try our best....U of F wants 75% of estimated cost up front before they even look at the fog. R.I.P. Tucker...we did our best.:(

Oh I am SO sorry for your loss :( There's really no pain like it, I lost my pup last year as well. There's definitely a peace of mind in knowing you did absolutely everything in your power though and Tucker was so lucky to have you <3

I would have spent thousands on my dog Riley and care credit really helped. Otherwise I would have missed my house payment. Which I would have done. I would have lost my house for him and lived in a tent with him and the cats and chams. Lol. I would've called the bank to make arrangements but getting him better was more important than my mortgage this month. At least I was able to get it all worked out and he's back to his old self now.

Tucker is gorgeous! I am so glad you were able to save him. My mixed breed dog Red was diagnosed with lymphoma in June 2012 and had 6 months of chemo and has been in remission ever since. He still goes to his Oncologist once a month for check ups and blood work. He is 14 years old and has been in remission longer than any other dog for lymphoma at the Animal Cancer Care Clinic. Red is their poster boy.

I know how you feel. My wife and I believe that when you take on the responsibility, you should do what it takes to take care of your animals. We were faced with that tough decision a few years back with our newly adopted cat. Just after 6 months old he threw a blood clot that lodged by his back legs. He had almost no pulse in either leg. We frantically rushed him to the emergency clinic and then to the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital and learned that he has a deformed mitral valve that caused re-circulation of blood in his heart chamber. They could not do surgery to remove the clot. He was in congestive heart failure and at risk of loosing both rear limbs. The staff at UF gave him a 30/70 shot for recovery at best and due to his age they were not very optimistic for recovery, but had a medicine treatment plan that could work to control the heart rate and eventually reduce the size of the heart muscle wall. We "had" the money at the time to try and went for it. It would have been a nice option to pay that off interest free for a while! Rascal just turned 9 in June and is considered a Miracle Story by the staff at UF.
