Video Editing Software

What software is everyone using to create or edit video? Any suggestions for members that have little experience creating their own? I used a free microsoft product called movie maker or something like that to create the contest description video. It's mostly just an image with some background music. I assume there is a variety of better products out there.

btw, we have an open video contest:

I have used windows movie maker to edit all of mine.

I am curious if there is a free, and simple to use software out there that would be better.

WMM is not bad for doing the things I need to do, but its a bit awkward to use sometimes. ;/

I just upload my videos to youtube and share them. The thought of adding music and captions hadn't even entered my head. It is something I would love to do but i have no clue about those things!

I shoot all my HD video with a Panasonic Lumix GH1 camera.

I use Power Director 9 to edit it all together, add music or narrations and titles. Its pretty easy to use and I have been very happy with the results

I use Sony Vegas which is amazing, but pricey. Windows Movie Maker is another great one and easier to use

All of Adobe products. Adobe AfterEffects, Premiere, Photoshop, etc.

Also use Final Cut Pro, along with Sound Track Pro. But prefer Premiere as it is much more user friendly.

I vaugely remember looking into opensource video editing software a while back for a website I was working on. I'll have to dig back and try to remember...

It would have been Linux based though, not Winblows
