vieled or panther

so i have been reading on this site for a couple of weeks and have read that vieleds r easier to raise then panthers. but form the forum i have aslo read that panther chameleons r not as moody as vieleds. my question is y r vieleds easier to care for if they dont seem to like any contact?

veileds can take more of a beating, but neither are "easy". if i would choose again.... veiled. i enjoy their colors, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Panthers aren't going to be too keen on contact either.
Chameleons do not like to be handled ... period.
Care for Veileds and Panthers is similar and at about the same level of difficulty.
Veileds may be a bit more tolerant of variances in their habitat (heat, humidity, etc) which is why people say they are easier.

Chameleons period are not easy to care for. Veileds, like stated before, are more tolerant of their environment then panthers.

so i did not mean to say that chameleons are "easy" to care for. i was just asking which has more of a tolerance for mistakes. easy is a term i used in the context of the chameleon.

Next question has to do with what is a good age of cham to start with?
and which breeders have good reps and stock?

well i would go with chameleonsonly.com they have great veileds and panthers, plus they are great people. veileds are 85.00 pathers are about 200-375.00 they start at 3 months old. which is the earliest you should get a cham. screameleons also has a good selection of pathers. i would go with veiled

chameleonsonly.com has some great looking breeders and a really nice starter kit for those that dont have everything to start with(with the exclusion of plants and branches). thanks for pointing me in the correct direction.

Straight up go for the panther chameleon, i think becuase ppl spend so much on them they dont neglect them like veilds are , and there temperment is awsome compared to a veild just the requirments for panthers is much more misting and the humidty is up 20% more then veilds , other then that i keep my veilds pretty much the same as my panthers , but i would deff recomend a panther just besure to do your research and you willl be fine but good luck hope you get one

Personally, I picked a veiled because of where I live. I'm in the high desert, and wanted to keep my chameleon in the living room. Ihave high ceilings, and there is no way to keep the humidity up as high as I would think a panther would do well at.

I also knew that an automatic misting system wasn't something I could handle in terms of the technology. ( a lamp timer was a challenge, and let's not talk about the computer!)

But I knew that between my daughter and I we could mist at lleast three times a day, and have the needed income and savings to deal with any unexpected costs (vet bills, the cost of silkworms...!)

I think the most important thing is to look at your lifestyle, and be honest with yourself about what you can and cannot do.

well i am in to my reptiles, and i am just a bit handy. i just like to do as much research as pos. chameleons r just amazing!!!

A bit wordy....sorry

I say just buy whichever is more affordable for you at this moment because it won't be long until you own the other. They are addictive. My b/f and I are on the slow path to owning at least one of each species.

We haven't even owned our first for a year yet and we are already owners of two panther a veiled and two pymies not to mention waiting on our first clutch of fertile eggs.

I personally am not able to choose my favorite. The veileds have an attitude but I think it is funny and he makes me laugh like the others don't but the panthers just have this beauty that I can't explain.

so who has the most comprehensive care sheet for both the vieled and the panthers?

send me a PM.
I'll share you both my panther and veiled care sheet that i git from kammers.
always research first and prepare everything b4 purchasing the chameleon.

again, my recommendation is get a 2.5 months old male veiled chameleon.
They are more hardier than panther. They can take more temp and humidity fluctuations be4 getting sick. Thus, it is best for your learning curve.

From my experience veiled chameleons need more attention than my panthers, and they are harder to keep conditions right

Personally I prefere the Veilds. Coaurse they are the only kind I've ever had and the Panthers are good looking too, but personal choice.

I thought that most Chameleons in general don't like being held, or handled all too much?

I honestly don't think there is much of a difference in the two besides body type..
