Chameleons and carotenoids...
Vitamin A and Beta-Carotene - Orthomolecular.org
"Of primary importance, on the other
hand, to the old world chameleon, are the
other 400-odd carotenoids which it ingests
by feasting on exotic bugs which them-
selves have eaten myriad plant isoprenoid
pigments. Once within the chameleon, not
only do these carotenoids sequester them-
selves within reptilian dermal cells (pris-
matically formed to magnify the color
changing effect) but they directly support
osteoblastic activity. Now you know why
these magnificent lizards rarely survive
captivity; without the exotic plants and
bugs, their diet offers inadequate caro-
tenoids and their skeletal structure fails
them causing fatal electrolyte imbalances."

It's something I've known for years...which is why supplementing and proper feeding/gutloaded is so important.

How do I tell how old my chameleon is?

@Mawtyplant asked..."Kinyonga, remind me something? you study in science right?"... I always took physics and chemistry in school but when I started keeping reptiles' I took some beginner biology classes...but I need more. Now I just read a lot of science books and papers etc. No degree in it. :(. Why did you ask?

Pubmeds references are not so frequent over there but im always super excited to got a good papers about the subjects! :ROFLMAO: and i have vague souvenirs (memory?) of you sharing a scientific poster in a facebook page in a wew day! but still not sure about this!

I'm English speaking but can read French and speak it to some extent. My grandfather was part French but being surrounded by only English speaking family he never spoke it and so I never learned it. He died when I was very young or I would have had him teach me.
