WATERFALL why not and why do?

If you haven't been misting them, what method do you use to provide them with water? It is not mentioned anywhere in your post.

my bad lol, forgot that part. I hand mist parts of the cages.thats what the care sheets say and it helps the pants and humidity. (never seen um drink from it....but I still mist a few times for short periods but I dont spray the chams directly they see the mister and start moving away n I just spray some of the cage once a week I make it rain a bit and lightly shower the whole cage) I do run big drippers on the cages, start them when I get up and I stop them when lights go out...theys sleeping so no need to have it running

There are a lot more cons than pros.

It's tough to do correctly, although it could be done. You'd need a filter that could filter out pathogens which would be a lot of infrastructure and expense. Worth it if you have a large room vivarium, not so much for just a cage or two. The fuel type filter shown won't do the job. For the most part, they are not recommended due to the infrastructure, expense, and upkeep that exceeds most keepers expertise.

It would be really easy to mess up which puts your animals at risk for disease.

Babam you may not be a senior member yet but that was said like a pro! I second this entirely.

No, no, no, and go ahead and put another NO with it! Are you guys serious? Do you think our local water supply is not heavily subjected to chemicals before seeing our tap? Now that we have "filtration" out of the way..Lets go to well water. Do you honestly think you can memic a supply of fresh water "like rain" that will filter through atleast 10 feet of soil? BUT WAIT A SECOND!!! How about instead of letting that 10 feet of earth filter out nice clean rain water. Lets piss and crap all in it and then pour it over this earth and then drink it!! Sounds good right? You guys are effin crazy thinking sponges and earth and roots and uv filters will filter contaminates like piss or crap out and make it safe to drink. We cant even put quantity or mass of water into this equation cause its probably a gallon max...

The hydroponics guy in the above post's is not even on this level or even close to waste water management for human drinking use. Crystal clear water...very nice but go drink it days on end and come let us know how that worked out for ya ;) I can achieve crystal clear water with life in it also with nylon webbed packing strap. I have done indoor pond set ups, very easy to keep crystal clear water but you are out of your mind if you think ill drink it.

Before subjecting a animal that did not choose to be in your care to your dumb *** idea. Take a drink from this water just before your clean it daily and come back with the results.

Dang ataraxia isn't playing around today :)

Yeah pure water purification seems unlikely in this situation.

If I was dead set on a waterfall (I am not) I would cover any pool area and use a fine screen at the base where the water comes in. I would NOT buy one of those decorative desk types, who knows how toxic they are? I would buy the kind for dogs and cats to drink out of with carbon filters attached. I would also buy 2 of them and every day sterilize the one not being used. Remember the pump needs to be cleaned too!

This can't be worse than drinking off a leaf that was dedicated on the day before.

With that said I would use a dripper to solve the problem, not a waterfall. I used to run a dripper most of the day, you do need a drain if you do this but it is far easier and much more sanitary.

Waterfalls aren't impossible to use responsibly, just way more effort than its worth!

okee thats allot of reading .. was away for a few days so had some time to check some things out.. first things first...
i went to germany to the biggest pet shop in europe ( i live in holland )
and saw there the (monsoone) here comes the trouble haha
i m working atm with the habba mist..
as soon i pressed the action button of that monsoon i seriously heared nothing... i must even watch close to where it was spraying... so
silend it was... and a nice mist it became... on the other head...
people who had as a starter the habba mist that makes a hell of a lot noise...
now that if seen the mongoose in progress im starting to doubt mabye its after all the bigg water drips my chameleon hates... and he loves the fine mist that those nozzles produce...

Thank you. Forum rankings aside, I have been keeping chameleons for over 30 years. I also know how to correctly filter water. The cheap way is very labor intense, but can be done if you are motivated enough. Lots of people preparing for the "end times" have their own DIY setups, as do a lot of people living off the grid who drink filtered rain water.

The easy way is to spend a lot of money on commercial systems, but you still have a lot of upkeep. Zoos usually pay specialists to do it.

Distilled water in a hand sprayer?

The desire to make something simple , complicated, is strong in this thread.

Like I said I know it sounds scary but what do you think they drink in the wild???? Bottled water? I start with RO Water that I filter myself and the RO filter system I have cost more then most small cars. I also work for a Pharmaceutical compounding lab and my water is tested on all levels weekly. People do some research on aquaponics if you think its not possible that just means your skill level isn't there yet. I have seen more nasty water setups that local FL breeders use that would gag a maggot!

Rain and dew drops?

That is unless they have little leprechauns spraying them individually. Who knows with those little @#$%, It could be filtered urine from a waterfall.

everyone knows the bad side ...
like i written down.. i wanna hear some good solution the fix
the problem .. ;) and this is what i came up with ...
i know waterfall isnt the best but if it works it works...
he never drinks.. i know that.. ;) bye now..
so i need to get a good filtration and a water clean up every
day isnt a problem realy.. i mean if the water is running ... and it isnt in a
good position for pooping into it..
i mean a chameleon .. mine one does **** all over the place ...
so that problem is the only one i see atm and even that can be fixed to clean it more then 3 times a week .. i only want my man to drink ;) and be healthy

Have you tried teaching your chams to drink from a pipette or syringe? Some chams take to this really fast and it is also a pleasure to interact with them directly. When I first attempted this with a new cham I would first mist the foliage with very warm water and walk away to let the cham sort of get in the mood to drink something (sort of like giving them the hint that rain was coming). Watch the cham for signs it was ready (they would usually start swallowing and licking their lips and watching water droplets). Once they started this I would hold a hand spray bottle or syringe over their head and start slowly dripping WARM water down on their snout, letting it run down their face. Eventually they would suck in the dripping water and start actively drinking. I just kept dripping until the cham stopped drinking entirely. Unless the cham is really dehydrated and desperate for water they prefer drinking slowly for a longer time. Once the cham has learned where drinks come from it was easier and easier to get them going. Some will even reach up to hold the nozzle or syringe to get at the water faster. It makes monitoring their hydration level very easy after this. One good long drink a day (in addition to general misting or fogging the cage itself) is often enough.
