they imo are a great idea if you keep them clean, clean it every other day and once a month a complete strip down. i have used water falls in most of my vivs with no problems.

Everywhere you read says that waterfalls are a big no no but I wonder if using distilled/de-ironised water within the waterfall and making sure to clean it every few days and I mean like a good proper clean then it might prevent it from getting bacteria

Honestly, I think it's to much of a hassle. If it's the one that either zoo med or exo terra makes, it will look so small in a big cage. Also, it will just become a toilet and bacteria ground so it won't really look that nice. It was a nice gift but I'd advise against it.

In my experience it doesn't really matter what type of water you use. Tap, distilled, RO, bacteria is bacteria no matter how clean the water. I just wouldn't risk it IMO. Plus you hear horrific stories of chams drowning. I would just ask your brother for a receipt, take it back and get something else that he picks from the store that will be beneficial to your chams overall health and well being.

No real reason you can't use the waterfall for your own enjoyment. Just thank your brother for his gift and set it up next to the cage instead. It is just a hassle to maintain when used inside a cage (unless it happens to have a biofilter built into it) and as it won't really raise the cage humidity or provide direct drinking water for most arboreal chams not really worth it.

There just another way of hydrating the chameleon and another thing to clean!!!!!;)

but they look nice and do good if u clean it every other day or every two days!!
Had one for all my chameleons and they lived till they were old and grey!!!

your chamelon is gonna poop in there, there are gonna build bacterias either way, aquarium filter and such don´t kill bakteria, they actually keep them alive because aquariums need bacteria, waterfall are a big no
