ways to cut spay and declaw costs for a cat?

my friend just got a cat that needed rehomes or it was going to be thrown on the street. his landlord says if he wants to keep it, it has to be fixed and declawed. he really wants to keep it, but doesnt have the $200+ to do it..are there any organizations, local vets, etc. that can help? located in altoona pa. he is fully aware of the declawing risks, but he really wants to keep her.

i sent an email to the central pa humane society. they may help with the spaying, but still have to find a reasonable place to declaw.

not sure. probably no more than 2 hours. maybe more if the price is worth it.

There are low cost spay and neuter clinics but none of them will do declaws.

i know about the clinics, but he'd like them both to be done at the same time, if that is possible so she'd only have to go under once. i hate declawing, but its the only way he can keep her...the humane society has asked $75 to take her, and if we have to pay to give her up, may as well pay to keep her.

really? its quite common with indoor cats so they cant scratch furniture and whatnot, but its not a pretty process and very painful

some cats no matter how many toys you give them, love to scratch up the furniture.

but i dont recommend doing it unless you have a serious problem with it.

its just a pointless surgery. JMO


park circle charges like a 100 for neutering I think, i know it costs like 118 for my 40 pound dog to get neutered, and cats are cheaper.

my male cat cost me almost 300 for neutering there, BUT he had a medical issue that required more invasive surgery.

i didnt get a chance to call them yet, but i got a quote from ebensburg animal hospital for $115 for the spay and front declaw. only problem is, they are booked till january -.- my friend wants her in somewhere asap.

though she has to be current on shots, and they request to see her first before the spaying.

Declawing

You should see if the landlord will allow for the cat to have clips on its nails so it won't have to be declawed. This is a great alternative and cheap as well.

we have tried to talk to the landlord about just clipping her nails, but he wont allow it...he said declaw or dont have it

I wouldnt recommend declawing a cat it can mess up their paws and is really traumatic. there are these nail caps now that I would use instead if they have to have them declawed. they are plastic and just need to be glued on. I have used the caps on my cats before and they dont affect the kitty in any way. for the spaying there are low cost and free places just to try to keep the pet population down. Ask at a shelter about it they should be able to help out.

I Would also recommend the caps for the claws! Then it cannot scratch and it doesnt chop off the tips of the cats toes. It will be difficult to find a really cheap place to spay and declaw. Most places that do cheap spays are against declawing.

That is sad that the landlord wants it declawed. I think it is cruel to declaw a cat, even if it never goes outside. Neither of my cats hit furniture, just scratching posts and they are strictly indoor cats. Plus, they are excellent weapons against my nosy dogs.
