Most chams are private animals, for somebody to honor that requires love and generosity, so to be a successful keeper, that is also a requirement

The problem with care sheets in general is the amount of information that they need to contain is an intimidating amount to read for many people. I like that the forums resources are broken into chapters lighting etc. If you only read the individual species care sheet you will not get the full picture but go thru the chapters and you can get a pretty well rounded set of instructions. If you ask questions about your specific situation some one will know.

You think it's tough now, you should have tried keeping chameleons (even the easier species) before the internet!!
Not saying we are there yet, but we've come a hell of a long way in captive chameleon husbandry.

So what is our goal for captive chameleon keeping? I am the type that always wants to improve on things so I can get that. My understanding though, is that chameleons in captivity are living years longer than the average wild chameleon.

I kind of go in circles with this because I like to give my chameleons 'as-natural-as-possible' set-ups. At the same time, I'm not sure we should mimic certain things from nature if they're not living that long outside of captivity. I guess a lot of that depends on what they usually die from in the wild. Other than predators... is it droughts, heat, untreated illness, etc...

There are so many people keeping chameleons now under very different conditions with success, it's difficult to determine what exactly is the best way to keep any given species. One needs to find what works for them with the conditions they can provide. Hopefully you chose a species that you can easily provide a proper environment that they thrive in.
