Weeping fig

The plants I’m interested in are average 30“ in height. My terrarium is 48” high. Will they be high enough for the Jacksons to bask under? If not how tall should a plant be?thanks

No local (within 50 mi.) garden centers?

I really don't advise having a weeping fig shipped. They're so sensitive to changes or moving of any kind. I got mine at a local garden store down the street from me, and it still lost 3/4 of its leaves within a week or 2. It's recovering now, but no idea what it will look like when done.

Better (IMO) to get plants too short rather than too tall. They'll (hopefully) always grow; pruning will make them bushier. If you need more height, place them on an empty inverted pot of the same size.

The Bio Dude’s and LLL Reptile’s weeping figs were always shipped to me no problem, with no leaves missing or anything wrong with them. I was always the one who killed them around 4-6 months after that. I still prefer and recommend umbrella trees because they can support larger chameleons and add more branches to enclosure. Houston Garden Centers (a really great local nursery chain to me) usually has huge umbrellas in the beginning of spring until the beginning of winter here, and my local home improvement stores (and Walmart) have shorter ones available usually 24/7. Not sure if that helps anybody

Hello, it’s been a while since I started this thread. I’m interested in THIS Ficus. Are they safe for Jackson’s? It says they‘re 2-3 feet In height. My enclosure is a Zen Habitat‘s 24x24x48. Is there enough room in the terrarium to house a tree of this size?thanks much.

Jackson’s aren’t prone to plant munching so as long as the plant is free of spikes, fur, saps, etc. Also will depend on if you allow your feeders to free range which gives them the opportunity to eat the plants before becoming prey items. Here’s some information from CaskAbove.com:
“...there are a few things to avoid in your plant selection; plants with thorns, hairs, serrated leaves, sap, or smooth slippery branches (bamboo). Some known toxic/irritant plants are; poison ivy, dumb cane, red ivy, milkweed, stinging nettle, and dead nettle. Avoid fibrous plants that may cause impaction in substantial quantities, such as Spanish moss. Be aware of the plants capability to hold the weight of your chameleon and your plants positioning so as to avoid blocking the UVB rays at the basking spot.

The bonsai you’ve listed is beautiful but what you are purchasing there is a plant cutting which means you will have to grow it to maturity yourself. A 2-3 ft tall tree is great for a 4 ft tall enclosure btw, I would personally prefer plants that can be trimmed than a plant that I must wait to fill in, unless it’s for an outdoor enclosure (which has much faster growth in my climate).

I have one of approx. same size, and it fits fine along with 2 other centerpiece plants.
I would check weather between where it's being shipped from and where you are. These trees are quite sensitive to cold & drafts (and it's snowing here right now... )

The price also seems high. Locally they run around $50-$60 for that size (up to 4' tall).
