Weight of veiled chams

I think 150-175 is pretty average for an adult male. Leon my male is hitting 220 grams these days!

Howdy Andrew,

Here's the chart for my male Nosy Be' Panther. He's on the big side for most panthers but it'll give you some indication. He was supposed to be 3-4 months old when I got him in 9/2004. You can see I haven't updated the chart for a while. He leveled-off at 250 grams and has been about that ever since.

My male Veiled (2 years old) averages between 190 and 200 grams (this week's weight was 198g).

My female Veiled (16 months) weighs between 150 and 160 grams. She weighed 220g fully loaded 2 weeks ago with a clutch of infertile eggs. After dropping them out she is now back to 158g.

Howdy,

I almost forgot I have a couple of other charts of my male Veileds :). These two Veileds were very differently structured from each other. I adopted them at about ~2yrs old and ~4yrs old. The charts start from when I adopted them. I need to update Timid's.

Timid leveled-off at ~180 grams

As you can see in Grandpa's chart, he peaked at ~275 grams and went through a rapid weight loss due to contracting coccidia while out for stud services. That, combined with a couple other problems, finally lead to the end at around 7yrs-old 6/2007 (245 grams).

Sky is now at 310gm!!

My 2 year old Male Veil, Sky is 310 gms!! I just weighed him 1 week ago on a digital food scale. He's 18 inches long(total length).
I must have the heaviest weight Veiled when I see the chart and where he would be on it!!
I do notice that he has a slight pot-belly stomach but he only eats two giant mealworms and chomps on one fresh collard green leaf that I hang in his cage on a daily basis. I have a large artifical plant in his enclosure.

Christine

P.S: Does anybody else have a heavier Male Veil than me??

Hi Christine,

I'm pretty new at this, but I know a lot of people here have mentioned that mealworms are really high in fat and should only be an occasional treat rather than a daily staple of the diet. That may be why his weight is high.

mines at a puney 88 grams, but looking at the chart he seems pretty heafty for his age :) even still, I wish they grew to the size of iguanas :(

Howdy All,

For completeness, I went ahead and updated the 3 plots with the last year or two of missing data points :).

As you look at the charts, you can spot health problems like where Grandpa came back with Coccidia from stud services in April 2006. Same thing happened to Timid around September 2007. You'd think I'd have learned from Grandpa's experience except I that I was still in denial at the time .

Panther's weight hit its peak of about 275 grams in May 2006. That is where I cut his food intake down to 2 food items every other day. This might be a combo of hornworms, silkworms, superworms, roaches etc. If the food items are small then I might up the count to match. I always find it interesting how little food it takes to maintain an adult chameleon's weight.

Howdy Mika,

Excel is where I created the graph. Then I cut/paste the graph into cheapie Microsoft "Paint" to make it a JPG for Photobucket to link it to here :).

Dave's Panther is weight envy. I keep showing him to my Panthers hoping they'll take the hint and start eating more:)

Our old man Veil peaked at about 356 grams. I've brought him down to around 320 which allows him to stand up better on his old legs. I might slowly bring him down a little more. His weight to strength ratio isn't what it used to be.
