Weird skin thing on Jackson's ankle

I'm on my phone and cannot quote the health form, so forgive me if I forget something.

Jackson's chameleon, male, approx. 4 months old; I've had him for about 5-6 days. I've only handled him to get him out of the box. I got him from a pet shop, he is supposedly CB.

He eats 6-8 crickets a day; supplement schedule: Ca w/o Vit D twice weekly, Reptivite every other week. Crickets are gutloaded with collard greens and whatever fruit/veggie scraps I have that day.

I mist his cage 5x daily, until leaves are dripping. I have a big dripper, but he's terrified of it. He drinks well from leaves. His poo is normal, 1-2x daily.

He is in a 18x18x36 reptibreeze with a Reptisun 5.0 UVB, 40w basking light. Temps are daytime ambient 70-74, basking 76-79, nighttime 65-68.

He's active and alert and appears to be very healthy.

CURRENT PROBLEM:

He has a small blackish "tag" (don't know what to call it) on the inside of his left rear ankle, just above his foot. I noticed it when I took him from the box when we got home from the pet store. It looks hard, dry and wrinkled, almost like a scab, but it's like a tag that sticks out from his skin. I've included pictures below. I have stayed it with water and tried to brush it off very gently with a qtip but it appears adhered to his skin.

I'm not sure if it's leftover shed, because I've never seen anything like it. The conditions at the pet store are about what you would expect... Glass cage, no temperature monitoring, no humidity. It's not gotten any bigger or smaller this week, and it doesn't appear to be loosening up from his skin. Should I wait for another shed to see if it comes loose? Or maybe apply some mineral oil?

Thanks in advance!

It looks like old shed. I would try soaking it in some warm water if you can or a super long warm mist directly on that foot and then take a q-tip moist with warm water and see if it comes off. I wouldn't force it off. If it doesn't come off fairly easy I'd take him to the vet.

Ditto Jannb's advice. Sometimes there is just a spot that has issues shedding. Try long, warm mistings and a wet qtips.

Just take a q tip dip it in some mineral oil and rub on dry skin.Let sit a few and take another q tip and rub off.

Just wanted to add an update for anyone reading this in the future:

I tried warm water, mineral oil and q-tips several times to loosen the tag up, but it wouldn't budge, so Yoshi and I went to the vet.

Vet said it was retained shed skin, and that is not uncommon with Jackson's. Also, I should be sure to watch future sheds and keep him extra moist and monitor to make sure the skin comes off completely.

For the dried up skin tag, vet said to wait until his next shed, then repeat the warm water and q-tip routine. Today he started shedding and it worked!! The dried piece came right off.

That's excellent news! :)

Thanks for the update.

Yay! You'll want to keep an eye on that spot in the future too. My Jax has two little areas that tend not to shed well that I have to help along sometimes.

Thanks jannb and lathis! I will be sure to watch his sheds everytime, occurring that persnickety patch of his leg.
