I once had a baby hatch with some spine issues. She was given to a reptile zoo vet who was interested in deformities. He did a lot of x-raying and believed the deformity was likely caused by temperature fluctuations during incubation. She eventually developed paralysis in her hind legs. I don't know if she is still alive, but last I heard she was doing fine in a cage on the vet's desk at a big zoo.

I would be very hesitant to consider any deformities to be genetic. Most can be traced to problems relating to incubation. Spina bifida has many causes, with nutrition being a main one. Spina bifida is a failure of the spine to properly form around the spinal cord.

Perhaps your vet meant scoliosis?

My mistake she did dx with scoliosis

You said..."I once had a baby hatch with some spine issues. She was given to a reptile zoo vet who was interested in deformities. He did a lot of x-raying and believed the deformity was likely caused by temperature fluctuations during incubation" ...exactly what I was thinking but this is usually visible from the day they hatch when it's due to incubation.
