Went to petco today...

There is no such thing as truly rescuing an animal from a pet store. Regardless of how you obtain it, the store benefits from it. Even if you didn't pay for the animal, you just freed up space for another one. That's just helping them add to the suffering.

Edit: If I am remembering correctly, there is a very thin book about chameleons that recommends using a hamster water thing, so they may just be trying to follow the instructions of a book, however misguided that might be.

What might help as well is grabbing one of their care sheets and asking why they aren't keeping it the way they have written the care should be. Their care sheet (the last time I read it) wasn't that bad and was actually a lot better than a lot of care sheets that I've seen online.

I've never read Petco's caresheets, but I second that. I'm sure it says something about what size enclosure they need.

Can't remember which store, but one recommended at least an 36 inch cage for an adult veiled, which is much better than the recommendation to keep them in glass aquariums like many other care sheets.

There are some red flags like mulch substrate, etc. Type of enclosure is not mentioned, but humidity and drinking water is discussed. Even though the conditions would not be completely suitable, it would be nice if they at least followed their own care sheet.

Petsmart Care Sheet is Odd and Vague. Same comments as above, except water, food, etc is missing also.
