Werneri info

Hello everyone,

Just joined last week. I am getting back into chameleons, big time!
I got a pair of rudis last week (female gravid) and am getting a gravid werneri in a trade for my baby beardies. I know that they should be kept similar to the rudis, but does anyone have any other info on them that is precisely for them?

Thank you

You said your getting back into chameleons big time. Even so, do you think yo will handle a gravid rudis and gravid werners? Make sure the females are super healthy to produce strong healthy babies as I have heard alot about high death rates with neonates of live bearing and montane species. Good luck with them

I have alot of critter pens ready for the babies, as I will try to separate them individually.
Hopefully, they will not give birth at the same time!
I know the success rate is low for the neos, but I have to give it a try. It will be fall/winter by the time they give birth so will be cooler.
Once I figure out how to post pictures, I will send some.

Thanks,

Ive worked with a handful of werners before. Great species! They do not like high heat. Around the mid 70's is perfect for the day and a 10-20 degree drop at nite will make them purr like a kitty. Just kidding. No basking bulb is needed, but I suggest you keep there cages near a window. They are not picky eaters but I found they prefer soft body insects like silkys and horns the best. High Humdity is needed. At least 50%. Lots of live plants. Ive raised one neonate to adult hood before. He grew very slow. He did very well eating FF's and tiny silkys for his first 3-4 months. Be very very very careful with your calcium/vitamen supplements on both neos and adults. Depend mainly on gutloading. When you do dust the insects, just do it lightly. Only dust half of the insects you plan on feeding to your werners. Hope this helps. Goodluck!!!
