Western Fence Lizard AKA Blue Belly

Well I had mentioned in a previous thread the Blue Belly that had let me pick him up while he was basking one day. These guys are probably the most common lzard we have here in Cali... the are everywhere this time of year. If you go out early in the morning you can turn over a log... and find tons of them sleeping and just collect them like easter eggs. We kept him for about a week and fed him small crickets and worms... Then we decided to let him out to hang with all his friends we started seeing running around the yard... These guys are super fast unless it is cold out... But when I found him, My cat Nilla spotted it first and ran up and gave him a slap with his paw... The lizard just sat there and then Nilla realized the little guy didn't want to play and just left it. I walked up and this guy just looked up at me... I picked him up and he didn't even try to run... He just stared at me like my Beardies do. He was a cool little guy. Hope he is doing well out there.

These pics are from the day we released him... He jumped literally like four horizontal feet through the air to land on this Ficus... where he just chilled and let us take some goodbye shots.

wow super neat, and so much different from the lizards we have, you can really tell he came from a dryer climate

Thanks Guys, Yeah he really wasn't that big... Well he was big for a Blue Belly I guess but was only about 4 or 5 inches from head to tip of tail. Probably the fastest little lizard I have ever tried to handle... I am sill baffled why the day I found he didn't try to run at all... the sun was high in the sky and it was 90' outside.
