What do I look for for a healthy Veiled?

I'm at the stage now where I think I've done the reading, got my viv setup correctly and everything ready to go, I've arranged to go and visit a breeder on Sunday to look at a couple of chams. I've told them i'm after a male, I think they should be easier to start with not having issues with eggs. Is that a correct assumption?

What I'd like is a little advice on anything in particular I should look out for or try and avoid. I think It can sometimes be quite obvious if something doesn't look too healthy but anything else would be good to know.

The ones im going to look at are in the same hatch as the two photos im attaching.

Many thanks

Simon

i wish i got mine when he was that small but i settled for a 5 month old male as thats all they had left:(

maybe i can shed some insight towards your questions!

are you aware of what signs of MBD look like? something good to educate yourself: http://www.martinsreptiles.co.uk/ukchams/calciummbdd3.htm#visual

also, making sure that the cham is well hydrated/fed by inspecting: the eyes are not sunken in; some fat deposits on sides of casque and hind legs where the tail meets; and no overly wrinkly skin. also if possible, try to inspect the fecal matter! i know it doesn't sound fun, and may be difficult where babies are housed together, but if you have the chance you should take it. poop should be brown and a bit moist with a white part (urates). if it is yellow there is possibility of dehydration. it may be possible for the breeder to separate the youngster for you in order to obtain a fecal. if not, just have a look at any of the poops and it should give you a general idea of whats going on.

dark colors are a sign of stress or excitement (usually)... when chams get depressed or stressed out they tend to have a gray haze over their coloration. bright green is usually a content color, they tend to stay bright green when they sleep as well.

even though your new lil dude should be fine, in the first week it doesn't hurt to take him to a vet for a fecal to test for parasites, and for a general check up. perhaps someone will chime in about finding a competent vet in your area...

oh, out of curiosity, do you have pix of your enclosure?

Awww they are gorgeous. If they are from the same clutch I wouldn't worry. Those lil' buggers look great!!!!

Cheers guys, there is a thread with my enclosure in the enclosure forum, my only concern is that the enclosure is too big for a young one, any thoughts?

Also for collecting it what is the best thing to give it a good ride, will be in car for just over an hour on way back. is a shoebox substaintial?

Thanks
