what do i need for my chameleon?

okay, so i've had a bearded dragon and a few anoles before but moved and had to give them away and now i would like to get a chameleon. i know at first they are expensive, (my dad said he would help and then later i would pay him back). i know that i will need a cage, heat and regular lamps, vitamins, a water dripper, but what brand is the best? ( and not way off the line expensive)
also, what species is good for holding? i wont be holding it all the time, but i would like to be able to and not stress him out. also, if i let him go outside, will that mean i have to give him d3? also what other vitamins should i get and when do i give them to him. ( i dont know for sure what species im getting yet i guess i will have to ask specifics for that species later, but what are the basics, i want him to be happy and healthy!!!!!

Hello and welcome to the forums!! Glad you found us and we will help you get everything set up to raise a healthy chameleon. Most of us use the Reptisun or Reptiglo tube stule 5.0 uvb lights. Alot of members are using the Arcadia t8 bulbs also for uvb. As far as basking bulbs, ordinary white housebulb and the wattage will depend on what species you buy, how old it is, your house temps etc. There is no chameleon that is the right one to "hold". Most common for beginners are Veilds and Panthers. They can both be held but it depends on the chameleon and it indiviudal personality. Some tolerate handling well and others do not. It is kinda luck of the draw and also your interaction with your chameleon is important. Depending on how often and how long he will get outside time will determine if you need d3.Most members follow a supplement schedule as follows: Calcium witn no d3 daily, calcium with d3 twice monthy and a multivitamin to be used twice monthly as well. You dust your feeders with the supplements. Also gutloading(feeding your feeders) is quite important. You want to feed your feeders a variety of nutritious fruits and vegetables, among other items that will get passed onto your chameleon when he eats the feeders. Check our member Sandrachameleons page on gutloading. She has great info on that.

i think you going to have to use your 120 on research books .you can use the diferent type of forum and learn new things everyday before purchashing because i dont think theirs a chameleon out their that eats cricket smoothie .

From the questions you are asking, it is obvious there is research going on, and also obvious that a lot of information is processing! There are some good blogs and basic care sheets available, but don't rush it! Take one thing at a time so you can get the info you need. Ask one or two questions at a time so you will get focused answers. There's a lot of information out there!
