What do you guys use to put over the soil in your pots?

I’m currently using small/medium sized smooth stones. But it’s hard to keep them in the pots when the plant is tilted. Any ideas? Maybe something that can be wiped up or easily cleaned if poo gets in there.

Nope i just use driveway gravel thats bigger than the chams head.

You want something that Mrs cricket cant put her butt stick through and end up with a sea of pin heads. So a piece of cloth would not work.

I’m thinking I might try getting a flexible waterproof shelf liner, cut it to a slightly smaller size than the pot, so it’ll fit snug but still allow water to get through, with a slit leading to the hole cut out for the plant in the center. I don’t know. Just tired of cleaning poo out of rocks. It’s not easy. Lol.

I have a pressurized spray bottle. I spray the poo on the rock down into the plant... think bonus safe fertilizer :)

Your welcome. I use one similar to this. You can adjust the nozzle to give the spray pattern you want. then you don't kill your hand with a regular spray bottle as well because you pump this one and just push down on the button for it to spray... I use this to spray off leaves, branches, and the side walls of my enclosure. Remove cham and use warm water. hard spray takes all the fecal matter left behind off. I do this once a month and then spot clean every day.

1. I leave at least an inch at the top of each pot for multiple layers of pebbles.
2. I press the first (bottom) layer into the soil just enough that it won't roll out with a slight tilt.
3. I keep enough extra pebbles on-hand to replace any that need scooping out, placing the soiled pebbles all in one container (usually an old pot) until there are enough to spray clean with a garden hose.

I like Beman's idea too; I just don't have that kind of sprayer.

Another option I've seen but not tried is making a cone out of metal fabric (mesh), to place around the stem, and just over the edge of the pot. ^ A tad easier to clean the ? off, and can still be sprayed down. Also keeps Mrs Cricket's butt stick out.
