What do you use as stands for a line of cages?

That's the thing, I don't know anyone that works with wood. And I'm not even sure where to find someone local to build me something. I would commission my engineering friends to make something at the university's metal shop but I don't want to bother seniors with extra work.

I'm supposed to go furniture hunting today with the boyfriend so we'll see what we find in the local stores.

But I'm surprised none of the breeders with 10+ chams have poped in to say anything. Maybe they just have their cages set up on cement blocks lol

I would stay away from wood. Even sealing and pressure treated are porous and absorb water. I would find a fabrication shop make what you want and have it powder coated. It's lighter probably cheaper and last longer and easier to add to. More fung schway.

i took a old table cut some off the leggs some and made a frame to go on top . the frame kinda looks like a screen door. then added a upright on either side attached to the back at the leggs with a crossbar across the top . i have 2 swiviling plant hangers one on either side for the basking lights this way i can move the light back and forth to find the right place for it they are also on hung on light chain so i can lower or upper the light . i have one uvb streched across th top of both cages. i painted the wood with a primer then paint that would be siutable for out side . i keep this inside how ever it can get damp sometimes. if i want to move stuff around in the room i just move the whole thing and plug in to a different outlet. the mister fits under the table. and i put small stuff in the drawer in the table. if at some point i need to put in drainage , it will just go rite under the tabe as well. please dont mind the spelling . have a great and funny daythis is fits my 2x2x4 cages 2 of them

I get the 24 x 48 steel wire racks at costco. They are like $120 each but worth it. Easy to move, on rollers, easy to adjust racks, I put my botton rack up so my 5 gal bucket slides under, install the cages put a shelf above the hold lights, dripper, and anything else you need. I run a 48" uvb across hte top shelf and sit the hear lights there also.

Laurie.. those steel wire racks are nice! If you're talking about the ones I'm thinking of. They are really thick and sturdy. The only ones I've seen around are thin and look like they would fall over. It might be $120 but they are worth it. I'd really like to have one of those racks.

If all else fails OP, that would be another great option. I don't really know anyone that works with wood either. It really blows because I see all of these amazing stands on here. I'm actually kind of jealous that everyone is so good at it. No one ever taught me any handy stuff. But there has to be a shop that could maybe make something for you. Look around your surrounding areas too. There's bound to be someone that can help you out. Ask all of your friends, co-workers, and family. I'm surprised the people with the "furniture" looking cages haven't really commented. I know you're out there... so help the OP out! Lol.

I think I found something, at least it's the most promising thing I've seen yet. They are more industrial type shelves from Lowe's, which measure exactly 48"w x 24"d and I can divide them into two 36"h stands for 4 cages side by side. And for $90 it's not too shabby. I'd prefer them in a more grayish/steel color but I think this sort of brushed slate color will work just fine. http://www.lowes.com/pd_319468-1281...br|0||p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo=

It's certainly not what I wanted but it seems like the best thing I've found so far for the money. I have more than enough room under the tables to store all my insect bins. I wanted more of a furniture look but I haven't come close to finding anything aesthetically pleasing, not to mention anywhere near the dimensions I need. I have a few weeks before I decide anything but so far this is probably my favorite option.

I have noticed that if you have DIY cages you really need more than 48" for two of them. Just a heads up

Really? By how much?

If you havnt seen those in person, there pretty nice shelving units. Ill be using on for my vivs.

Yea, we went to Lowe's today among lots of other places and they did look nice. Very clean and sturdy. I will probably get PVC plastic or something to replace the particulate board on the shelf holding the cages just so it's water resistant but otherwise I like them.

Here's what I have setup. I also have a shelf that fits a 24 inch and a 18 inch side by side but I like these individual ones better. Also, these pics shows how I have my drainage setup.
