I like my frozen cubes... They are nice and compact so they dont take up a lot of space in my fridge.
I may skip to fresh when I got my shed and a fridge in it, I will also try to produce all of my own feeders since it saves like 50€ on a monthly basis.
So many feeders live at my house now, and I have to say I love it. I am currently feeding off all my silkworm moths (because about half of them are still alive the first half passed at 1.5 weeks old about) and now that they are no longer producing eggs I am feeding them to my geckos since I currently don't have any chameleons who are capable of enjoying them.
@Andee I still feed fresh random stuff that we have laying around, but my main source is frozen gutload and dry food(bug buffet). I wouldn't replace dusting either. I'm curious where did you learn about this blender info? I'd like to read about it. I trust your word I'm not trying to call you out lol, but I usually have big "blender meals" I call them that are basically the same thing as gutload smoothies I make for my bugs. Many athletes do this as well, so I'm interested now if you say it destroys nutrients.
Air exposure? hold on lemme get the incomplete vitamin list (since they haven't looked into a lot of them) to link you.
Or do you want the raw diet stuff I was talking about for cats/dogs stuff? I thought air exposure and vitamin loss with temp changes etc, was common knowledge XD
I've read about it, all I see is that it reduces the vitamin content, so why not just add more? Unless i'm not understanding. I tend to just go by if it's not broke don't fix it, blending up a giant mash probably offers more nutrients than adding 1-2 pieces of fresh food. I'm sure you add a wide variety, but the average newbie is just going to add a carrot or kale or whatever... I'd much rather see them grind up a large list of ingredients, vacc seal it, and freeze. I do this plus add fresh, best of both worlds
It really depends on the amount of vitamins in what you are adding. Adding extra of a single thing that only has 30% of whatever vitamin that is affected by air or cold means that it's still going to be reduced just as much and not be nearly as useful as adding something that has 80%-100%. I am not against frozen (for other people) I will not use it personally, I have no need to. I don't get molding in my enclosures usually before everything is eaten
