What is this? Looks like dry skin hanging out of butt

I just got this Panther Chameleon and am trying to acclimate him. Although I have a lot of experience with reptiles I am new to the Chameleon world. This guy doesn't eat much but seems healthy. He just defocated and this what looks like dry skin is hanging out of his vent. I very gently tugged on it and it didn't come out. Kind of seems like its attached to something. Does anyone have any idea what it is and what I should do about it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions for a newbie would be awesome too. I think I'm getting the cage pretty close to where it should be

Wlecome to CF!
Super glad you are here!

That is a sperm plug.

You can gently pull on it to remove it, or just let it ride and it will fall out.;)

It's just a sperm plug :) nothing to worry about. You may seem him rubbing back end on branches to remove it. Also mist the area to re-soften the area :)

Welcome to the Chameleon Forum. And welcome to manhood to your chameleon. There is much you will learn from experienced members on this forum. Very helpful and knowledgeable... more than you can learn from a book!:)

I'm sure it is very concerning when you didn't know to expect it. Stick around and read some of the great blogs on this site. Much to learn from experienced keeps that have a great passion for chams. They will always be here to help you:)

Does the male form a sperm plug only once? or does it happen on occasion throughout his life?

they form them constantly. either they stay in place and release them every few months, sometimes just before mating to clear the way, or when a lil’ bit sticks out and we get to do that gratifying pull.
