I bought him 30 hours ago. When I placed him In hI'd enclosure he went to hide and has only briefly left that position. He ate 3 mealworms today. Did not drink off pplants. Does not like mister . Does not go to water dish that drips from top. He seems very scared of me.

First off how old is he and what are the temps in the enclosure? He will be scared because it's a new place. Did you order him offline where did you get him?

You should leave him be for a couple of days and dont bother him to much. A new environment and surroundings for him, he will need a couple of days to adjust. My male veiled took about a week to settle in and was on a hunger strike for about two weeks when he first came home. My female was not as bad as him but still needed a few days to adjust to her new surroundings. I think what helped her was she stayed in her cage she was use to. Just new people and so forth. Dont get to over worked about it. I'm sure he is fine. Sometimes my male turns a dark brown almost black and it seems to be when he is a little to cold and is trying to absorb the heat.

they also require a lot of ventilation & fresh air. he/she will probably spend most of their time up top anyways but be mindful of what a respiratory infection looks like & monitor him for symptoms if you see him spending a lot of time in the tank. also, how do you keep circkets from escaping this set up?

chameleons don't recognize water dishes as a food source. they'll just poop in them.

Yeah, the water dish is not necessary and most people recommend having nothing on the bottom of the enclosure. Chameleons also need height to climb. You will need an enclosure that has more height.

Hello, welcome to the forum :) As other people have said, he probably just needs some time to settle in.
Chams are naturally very nervous and hidey animals, so everything should be done slowly and patiently. More leaves to hide in and small branches to fit his tiny feet will help him feel more comfortable about exploring his new house. Chams often prefer to drink in secret too, the easiest way to check is his poop. If there is a white urate section then he is drinking fine. If it is yellow then he is a bit dehydrayed. Here is a great basic caresheet for keeping Veileds - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html

Thank you... picture coming soon. The enclosure is 4FT tall. Natural terrarium with established non toxic plants. Small inline fan circulating air. Top is all open air. I have all sizes of branches vines... maybe I need more foliage as suggested for hiding. Soon the growth of some of the plants will thicken up the area. I realize his enclosure is only suitable for a young veiled. I have bigger plans . Temp in hot spot is 103 without fan, 94 with humidity is high as expected with live plants. I use a drip to a stick which drips to the leaves etc. Splashing the whole way. I mist two to three times a day all the plants.

I didn't look 4ft tall, sorry about that.

I mounted the food dish for two reasons. When I drip water into that dish it allows me to drip more water for a Longer time because it evaporates being near the heat area, and I have moss hanging over the edge which creates a multi drip on the leaves and under foliage. The other purpose is feeding. The first day I put four mealworms in the dish at 4 PM and he came to thi dish within minutes and ate three.

The hiding in the corner is probably due to lack of coverage. Their "fight or flight" instinct is get as high and hidden as possible. You want to have spots at the top of the cage where you give them the ability, or at least illusion, that you cannot see them when they are there.

Should drop that basking temp a bunch, especially in a terrarium. I would suggest about 88 degrees for an adult male, and less for a baby.

i just started with my veiled a lil over 2 months ago,
i panicked almost everyday.
patience!
do your best, read as much as you can...
i still surf the site and the web everyday
for cham info!

he is getting more comfortable and will continue to do so

Temporary, but ok? I can lower the temp by circulating more air with my fan...

I would reduce the basking light wattage. If using a 75 watt, try a 65 or 40 watt. This should do the trick.
