What kind of camera do you all use

I really don't have the slightest clue about cameras and I now want to learn. I've been trying to take a few photos today with my digital camera and it just doesn't get good focus on the chameleon, infact my iPhone is better at close up shots, I want to get myself a good camera so what am I looking for when buying so I don't get ripped of in the shops? Any advise welcome
 
I use my old(ish) Samsung PL50. It has 'macro' mode and 'Smart' mode and I use these functions whn taking pics of my lizards. The next step up is a 'bridge' camera/DSLR, but I don't know much about those. Depends on how much you want to spend too. As I said I use those two functions mainly and the camera also allows me to zoom in and crop before uploading photos to the computer. Take a look at bridge cmareas in Argos or Currys. I got my camera from Currys and tried their display model first to make sure it took good close ups that I knew I wanted.

I use a Canon T3i, haven't Invested into any lens yet. I plan on picking up a macro lens very soon though, just gotta wait it out because they're pricey.

But eventually I'd love to upgrade to the 7D :D
 
I need to start learning, I've not long had a pair of t laterispinis and there so hard to get a good shot of since they basically look like a bramble
 
I use a cannon t3i rebel and a olloclip for my iphone. I can not say enough about these two cameras. There is a better cannon than the one I have that is out now but if you have an Iphone the olloclip is amazing :D

I've been wanting to pick up the olloclip for the iPhone 5...Figured quality wise is just as good as a DSLR, But if you want to view your photo high res on a big canvas then the DSLR is the way to go.

But you can never go wrong with an iPhone. Even photographers always say iphones are great.

T3i is a great camera to start off on. It explains each setting on how to use it which is great...I took a photography class and I learned how to use it better and I can't complain about it at all. you can find them for cheap now adays and it's a 18MP camera...or the T2i just doesn't have the articulating screen.

Also I love canon...I use a mac/iOS devices so canons work perfectly with me.
 
ive got a samsung wb600 here witch i thought wasnt a bad camera, maybe i need to take a risk and take it of auto mode lol i just have no idea witch setting works for what

If it has a little flower symbol for a setting, that is macro. Even then you may not get what your looking for though.

When I have the time i use my t2i or t3i with a 100mm f4 1.8 lens. Which does a excellent job for the price ($100 shipped if you get a grey market lens).

Haven't even had the time to pull the macro out of its box yet :(
 
Yes, the flower symbol denotes the macro mode - some have 'super macro' whcih I think yu can select by pressing the macro button twice, or selecting from the macro choices when you select macro. My son's camera has this and it can toggle between the two. You might be better off reading the instruction book about using the macro setting. Those spikey bramble chams are wonderful and I need to see pis of them! :D
 
I shoot nikon
the best bang for your buck would be a used d3000 or d5000 and a 40mm micro lens

the iphone oversaturates soft photos and is only a good choice if you dont know any better
 
My father works as a professional director and producer so he has owned or worked with every camera out there, from million dollar ones to GoPros, and he only recommends Canon for photos, so that's the brand I have.

I have the simplest one in the line, the Canon Rebel XS, with a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II lens, which is phenomenal. My camera doesn't work very well in lower light but this lens really helps. The lens is not as great for macro as the standard 18-55mm lens that comes with the camera but for slightly larger objects it is great.

I have a 70-300mm lens in mind as my next one and eventually I'll upgrade the camera body but for now this is good for me.
 
I also use Canon - I have 3 bodies, 40D, 50D and 7D. I use all L series lenses, which is their professional line.

The Rebel series are the best to start off with. The best advice I give everyone is this... with how fast technology moves, don't spend a ton of money on a body. Spend your money on the lenses. Buy the kit, there are good lenses included that will get you started. Once you've mastered those, (and learn manual settings) then go buy some specialty lenses.

Some of the Canon bodies go upwards of $10k, and in 2 years they are obsolete.
 
CANON is also a good choice
I think nikon produces more vivid photos and canon more flat out of the box
but thats just an adjustment to the white balance
