What kind of worm is this?

I'm quite fond of mantids I don't think I could feed them to my chams. I'd order them and then just let them all go outside.
I am too, ever since I was a kid. My brothers and I used to hold them and "play" with them. I'd try a couple and see if my Cham likes them, otherwise my whole apartment complex may be bug free before too long! They're so cute...

When I was little I named all the ones in the yard. I had Lavern and Shirley. I brought all of the ooths in the house for safety over the winter and they hatched around January in my bedroom. I was probably 9 years old and there were 100s of baby mantids in my room. They all died because I had no way of keeping them alive. It was quite a lesson to learn

Aww that's a sweet story, although sad ending! One brother and I always had tons of tadpoles on hand and one day a friend knocked over our tub of them all over the back patio. My brother had a breakdown as I was frantically trying to pick them up and save them. We had all kinds of critters growing up! So much fun and good memories...

Pardon my language, but holy shit I have a little blue butterfly!!! Just checked on it today and finally, this little guy was flying around. Unfortunately Chloe is already out of her cage, but tomorrow it's going in there with her, I think lol. Part of me really wants to set it free. I really can't believe it actually turned. Advice, should I set it free or see if Chloe will eat it?

I say set it free.
I started to, but thought some random bird would get it anyways, so I let it go in Chloe's cage. She's out roaming this evening, so we'll see if she gets it later. I figured I'd give her first dibs on it. If it's still there tmrw I'll try to catch it and set it free. :notworthy::)

The dork in me is still so amazed it actually turned to a little butterfly.....

Sorry for the dark pic....

I had hornworms pupate. It was neat, the cocoons would wiggle and twitch. Watching mantids come out of their oothe is cool too. I'm a giant nerd and not afraid to own it.

Sometimes I turn the porch light on at night only to look at the bugs that show up. I did learn the hard way to not stand there with your mouth open when looking at the bugs at the light.

Lol! That's too funny because I totally know what you mean. I tried to pupate hornworms...got several cocoons but they died. Not sure what went wrong. This was my first successful and I just left it alone.

I have some mantis egg pods that I really want to order. It's starting to cool off here in Texas tho so may have to wait till next year

Hornworms are so easy. Once they turn into cocoons put them into some dirt and moisten it lightly with a spay bottle every day. Takes about 2 weeks for them to hatch. They don't start moving in the cocoon until close to hatching. I went through all that then my chams weren't even interested in the moths.

Cool and Texas doesn't sound like they go together. I'm in Delaware and we're on day 7 of a heat wave
