I have a new Chameleon in which i have been told he is a Ambanja.
Someone has mailed me on another foroum and is saying he does not look like a Ambanja but he looks like a Ambilobe or a Ambilobe cross.
Any suggestions on what he could be because i have a Ambanja female coming for him and i dont want to breed a croos local if poss.

I'd say blue-bar ambilobe hands down. The second I saw the pic thats what I thought and some reputable people agree :)

Don't want to cause unnecessary panic, but you might want to schedule a vet visit to check for parasites and some overall health test.

I felt there is something off about that chameleon.
This is just an instinct from looking at the pale coloration.
Also, there seems to be something going on in the mouth area.
Have you ever checked for abscess, pus, or swollen area when he open his mouth?

In the first pic, his eyes looked sunken as well.

He has been to the local vets which is used by most of the reptile shops in this area and he is de-hydrated but has no pus or anything in his mouth. He eats like a pig.He will take every thing from my hand when presented to him.
This is him today after a intense water feed and loads of food.

That is how many WC look after they come in, thin head caps and arms with some funky colors. I wouldn't worry as long as you have dewormed him, many times the immense appetite is a result of worms. They eat and eat and don't put on weight, so after the worms are gone they put on weight quickly.

He looks to be doing well for a WC, I wouldn't worry,

Cheers for all the info. The vet said that he was de-hydrated and gave him a injection and the day later he came to life.he is drinkinglike hell now and eating like a pig.
We wormed with panacure just over a week ago and will repeat the process in a week or two.
Contacted the chap who i had him off and he says that he is not wild caught but he knows of his parents when he was in germany.

I think it was also about a month ago you posted of this chameleon and with pics, and I did tell you that it was dehydrated.... didnt I, but you said hes not and you always see him drink, but anyway Im glad you took him to the vets.
You should get your hands on some silkworms they are the best for a dehydrated chameleon.

Hi there.
I never said he was'nt de-hydrated.He does always drink out of the spray bottle all the time i just never thought it would go that bad so quick.
So hopefully he will get back on his feet ASAP and thanks for the advice on the silkworms,i will get some as soon as i can.Cheers.
