what to do with large hornworms?

Be very careful feeding large horn worms. I read on here where a big Melleri got one caught going down it was like hanging on and if the keeper hadn't been able to get it out the Mellei would have died. I'll try to find the post it was from the lady that's over the Melleri Discovery.

Keep in mind not to feed anything larger than the space between their eyes.

I am assuming silkworms turn into moths too? Can you do the same with them?

Yes, as stated they spin their own coccoon. It is fascinating to watch really. They will turn into neat white moths that are WAY smaller than the hornworm's moth.

But as Jann said, do watch out for feeding them too big. The beauty of the hornworm is that you can cut it in half and feed it off if it's too big. Granted, you will have ooze and bug juice everywhere, but you can do it. :D

i was a bit concerned as he worked down that hornworm. i wish you could get small worms instead of those bigger ones...

diameter wise is what you mean i'm thinking... not length wise... right?

i wondered about cutting them in half and feeding them, but doesn't the diameter stay about the same, minus a little ooze? and i'm guess that you feed both halves at the same feeding?? ;)

do the same as in feedingoff the silkmoths? sure you can. You can even cut open the cocoons and feed off the pupae.

THe silkworm pupae are probably the most nutritious of all the silkworm forms.

Never dealt with those guys before, but do they have green blood like the silkworms?

So....I'm the only one who thought "run away screaming like a little girl"? I guess so. It's what I'd do, no question.

...cutting them in half and "do they have green blood"...what is this? Some hideous horror movie?
