What was wrong with him?

I had a male veiled chameleon who i recently had to have put down. I took him to the vets because he was dehydrated. They told me he had neurological damage as well. He was literally acting like he was possessed by a demon, he was flipping and twisting around it was a terrible sight, i just sat there crying and trying to hold him steady. He had only started acting like that an hour before i took him to the vet. It happened very quickly.

They were also telling me that he had black markings on his head which means he was sick. He had always had those markings since we got him. I told them that, the nurse said it was possible it could have been his markings but the doctor was yelling at me about it. I wish i knew what was wrong, was this all caused by just dehydration? The picture was of the day i had him. Even when he was sick he was still colorful.

The black markings are normal so, I am not sure if you want to deal with that vet in the future. Many of the Veilds get black coloring on their face and casque. Very sorry you had to put him down. He was a handsome boy.

Your vet is stupid.

The black markings are perfectly normal and have absolutely nothing to do with the cham being sick.

Im really sorry he was ill and you had to put him down.

Is it possible he ate any wild bugs, like shield bugs, assassin bugs, a lady bug, monarch butterfly?

I certainly can't say what happened to your cham but that vet doesn't know a freaking thing about veiled chameleons if he told you that the black marks on his head meant that he was sick. My cham had those his entire life. Some have black coloration on their faces from their juvenile days up through their adult years with no problems. That is absurd that he would yell at you about it though. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about.

The picture was of the day i got him* And no he never ate anything wild. The vet was the only one who could take him asap :/ the nurse was wonderful though. Thanks everyone

I am terribly sorry! Here where I live the vets don't know about chams either so I try to get as much info as I can from the forum...
I'm so sorry that he was sick! He was sooo handsome!

I am sorry about your cham, and having to go through that horrible experience

Short of injesting a neurotoxin, the only thing I can think of would be a blood clot in the brain. That's the only thing I know which could cause those seizures

Also, I agree with the others, the black markings are normal, both my veileds have them. Your vet knows nothing about chams.
I know how hard it can be finding a vet who does!!!

At least my vet knows a lot of experts and will consult with them if he is not sure of something. That is what a good scientist is supposed to do.

I'm sorry you lost your little guy. Did you free range him on any house plants? Is it possible he ate fertilizer?
