What watt?

Hey guys,
I was just wondering what wattage is best to use for the basking spot of a 3ft tall cage, 5 month baby panther? I had a 100w which was making the basking temp a solid 85, but the bulb I was using was emitting uv as well as the tube, so wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not, switched out for the same watt in a different style bulb and the basking temp has gone up to almost 90. Is this too high?

Do you live in an icebox? Around here 45 watt halogen reflectors bump it up to 90.

Any way cage size doesnt matter. 90-95 is fine at the basking area, as long as they cant get any closer than that.

Still, my 65 watt i have to keep over a foot away so it doesnt burn his head.

And the old uv bulb is fine, as long as its uva, which most bulbs produce anyway. It couldnt have been a 100 watt uvb unless it was a $75-$100 bulb.

It is still pretty cold here! I've removed the cover I had on the rear screen of the cage and the basking temp has come back down to 85. The old bulb is a 100w d3 uv basking light from Arcadia. Would you recommend switching back? He seems to be brighter colours today with the new lamp!

This is his enclosure, he can't get very close to the lamp, and he doesn't often climb the roof.
