What's the deal with the subreddit for chams?

@Action Jackson enjoyed reading your post. Was wondering since I haven't been to Madagascar and can only base my knowledge off googling monthly averages... i remember seeing that rainforests, such as ranomafana, drop in humidity during the 'dry' seasons. Only reaching around 60-70ish percent at night(which is still above average). Does this sound right?

The humidity could certainly be less in the dry Winter season. I haven’t been there at that time so I can’t say directly but one must take into account where the readings you’re looking at were taken. If it’s a general weather reading off the internet than it is most likely not accurate for the exact locations the chameleons reside in. Micro climates and interior forest conditions can be quite different than a reading taken by a weather station in town. I would think chameleons would move to areas weather the conditions are best for them, perhaps close to the forest floor or close to streams or whatever.

Very good point, didn't consider that. I've been leaving my Parsons at ~50-70% day to night through brumation based off what I could Google.

yea my boyfriend tried sending me all these "cute" chameleon pictures and videos and I went off on him... he never sent me another one...:ROFLMAO:(y)

The shot glass goes in the base of your largest potted plant, with light shining on it so it refracts making the glass look like one giant water drop. Water should be changed daily so poop going in it doesn't matter. I would imagine it would work for both wild caught and cb chameleons. I used this for my veiled chameleon and didn't need to any training or anything like that. Just offering the glass properly and he went right down and got his fill of water. Often times adult chams can't get 100% hydration they want since they're licking water drops. You try licking some water droplets and tell me how much that quenches your thirst

Just an ignorant thing to say by one of dozens of ignorant people in this hobby. Must be cool to have a pet lizard drinking from a shot glass. Kinda like how I'd see people come to the pet store to purchase a red tail boa or a ball python for a rock concert (We never sold an animal to those types).

Wow. I just went on the reddit page. The amount of ill informed keepers and poor set ups we see is staggering.

I ghosted the reddit forums sometime back off and on. Never liked anything there. More about egos and people supporting their own views than actual quality tips for husbandry. Those are the kind of "experts" I warned of. I always wondered if those folks would eventually work their way over here and learn how to keep their pets alive. Then I reralized it's not about being successful with the animal over there, its about looking cool with your stressed chameleon on your arm and getting it to drink out of a shot glass.

Could a Mod lock this tread? It's not conductive to the purpose of CF beyond being a warning to some new keepers that not everything on the internet is true. How do I know? I tried to get Atlas to drink from a shot glass but his head is so damn huge he can't fit it inside to get the water. Now I know shot glasses don't work

Well here's a question as it relates to actual husbandry. Flip69, one of the mods there said they don't recommend arcadia lighting. Have you, for any reason, not recommended arcadia as opposed to reptisun or something else? I was kinda floored because I've seen absolutely nothing but good things said about arcadia.

I love the Arcadia stuff. About the only company that actually researches and develops products based on actual research. Their UVB's are the dogs whatsits and what's confusing about percentages of UVB to light output, I don't know. Unless you're a total ****** of course.

I don't mean to knock CF, because the idea here seems to be(which I like) 'let the threads roll as long as they're not too out of hand', BUT we've had a few where people put hats and such on their chameleons, have them riding stuff, etc. with mostly praise by other members... Yet drinking water out of a shot glass is the line?

My opinion is that if you're a good, knowledgeable keeper, and you want to put something on them for a second to get a picture or whatever, so be it. There's worse things and it's likely not hurting the animal longterm, but IMO it shouldn't be shared with the general public because it further advertises chameleons as cool toys to play with.

100% agree with that. Most of the pics (not saying all), especially around Christmas were clearly photo shopped. If they wern't (and you know who I'm talking about if you posted a pic of your cham in a bloody elf hat), should be thinking about the animal 1st, not a 'fun' picture.
