Whats The Point of Misting?

I'm asking more for in my case, what does misting actually do? Background info:
-as soon as I turn on the dripper in the morning, he runs over and has a drink. he used to freak out when i misted him and would run away, but now sort of takes it. he still tries to run to the back bottom corner however to get away from the water. he's in a glass terrarium so i only have to mist once a day to keep it at appropriate levels.

the dripper seems to have him satisfied through the day since i see him drinking whenever he needs it (he's not shy at all about it) so what am i actually doing with the mister? i understand that its to stimulate drinking, but mine drinks before the misting. what am i actually doing the misting for?

(he's a male faly approx 7-7.5 months old)

As long as the humidity is at appropriate levels so he has no skin shedding problems, the ventilation is ok to prevent things like respiratory infections, and he drinks enough to keep himself hydrated - there is no point in extra mistings :D.
Sometimes chams enjoy it, sometimes it really helps get the shed off quicker, sometimes they prefer to drink that way (like mine) - that's about it.

i'm in a basement and the humidity is constantly between 48-56% with the majority of the time it hovering around 52%. is that okay for a panther?

That's ok, yes (60-70 might be better...). As long as there is one decent misting a day for a boost though, and he gets extra to help with shedding I think that should be fine for him.

That is tolerable for winter if the temp is 80 and not upper 80's. Id be happier seeing 60's with misting and then having it dry out over night down to your current measurements.

sorry, that sounded bad. the humidity in my room is between 48-56%. in his cage, when i mist, it goes up to 88% minimum and by the end of the day, it drops to wherever the ambient room humidity is.

i was just asking if the 52ish would be enough for all day if i dont mist, but i guess its not?
