Whats up with my lip???

I noticed this little abnormality on my Ambanja's lip. What is it? In pictures just a couple of weeks ago it was not there.

Please let me know what you think and what I have to do about it.

Thanks everyone.

He may have gotten bitten by a feeder, scraped his face on the screen, or bit something solid...

What has his diet consisted of lately? Is it possible that a feeder bit or pinched him?

That is possible. The crickets I was feeding with I had for a little while and the got pretty big. Tomorrow I am picking some up and am going to grab some smaller ones and I'm about to order some more worms. I got a real good look at it and I don't see any pus , swelling or anything like that.

I guess I just keep an eye on it for a couple of days and make a vet apt if it gets any worse.?.?.?

looks to be the start of mouth rot.

I second this. I am yet to have to tackle this one personally so I don't know if I am the man to give you recommendations on how to treat it. I do know it is something that you want catch before it gets worse.

Best advice I could give you at this point is take a trip down the road to Dr. Greek. I am pretty sure he will have to do some tests to determine what kind of bacterai is causing it, and what to treat it with.

EDIT: I wouldn't use an eye medication ointment for anything other than eye issues unless it was sepcifically instracuted by a vet...Just me.

Does your chameleon naturally have a tint of yellow around his lips? Mine has that too but her is pinkish red.

I am going to call Dr. Greek today. I hope he is still in Diamond Bar.

I don't want to wait. It its in the very early stage if it is mouth rot so I better jump on it now.

I just got off the phone with Dr. Greek. He is not practicing until he moves in to the new place Nov 1.

The hospital he was working at gave me his cell phone number. I called him and he answered. What a great guy.

Anyway here is what he recommend. He said there was really no need for a visit yet.

He told me to go to the drugstore and purchase some Betadine and dilute it until it looks like iced tea and use it to keep the mouth clean. He mentioned that will clear most minor infections or prevent infections that have not occurred yet. I am going to do this today and I will update this thread with the outcome.

Wow..Cool..That sounds like a great tip. What exactly is Betadine? Could it be bought at like a Longs Drugs?

I hope someone is still looking at this.

This is interesting. Please excuse the quality of pictures. I think you can still see what is going on.

First set of pictures

The same side as the pictures in the beginning of the post. They are from today. It looks a lot better than it did yesterday. Maybe the crickets are too big???? I am getting some smaller ones today.

Looking at the photos and the placement of each wound it seems they are in the same place on both sides. How big are the crix? I pinch the back legs off all of mine. Its a pain but they dont jump out of the cups and also the rough part/chirper doesnt rub against the sides of the mouth. You may be right about the crix being to big but if you are pinching the legs then maybe not. Hope you figure it out and all goes well.

betodine is iodine but has a nother ingrediant, i used this after my german shepard decided to ruff up my african spurred tortoise, had to wash his shell down every day in it to keep it from infecting and then coated it with neosporing and another topical cream the vet gave us.

anyways that stuff will work wonders..but taste bitters, he will prolly fight you on it.

very old thread but my suki seems to have the exact same thing as ryan's chameleon did. it's on both sides of his mouth and in the exact same place. anyone know what this could be? thinking about getting some betadine and trying to clean it to see if it helps. any help is appreciated. thanks!
