Does anyone know when the breeding season for Jackson Chameleons' is?
I got Larry December 2010 from a breeder/enthusiast who was selling all his reptiles since he would not be home with them while in medical school. Larry was about a year old then, so now he should be over 2.
Last year, I thought January but it may have been closer to March, Larry quit eating for about 2 weeks, and was staying closer to the ground.
I called the guy I purchased him from and he told me it was probably because it was breeding season and he would act differently.
I have noticed that he is doing the same now. Twice I found him sleeping on the ground, so I moved him back up on his branch. He is definately not eating as much as usual. (Usual is about 30 crickets every 5 days. He will only eat crickets, tried fasting for a few days and offered superworms, but he refused to eat them). The last batch of 30 crickets last me almost 2 weeks. He is drinking normal. He has now decided to sleep in his plant and not the bare branches like usual. He is also not curling his tail when asleep. It is just wrapped around a branch or a leaf.
His coloring is fine: light green, which is normal for him. If I pick him up, he will turn speckled, which is not normal. Normally if he is speckled for any reason, I can pick him up and he will turn green.
Also, He just seems like a grumpy chameleon. I call him Mr. Grumpy.
So, I guess my question is: WHen is the breeding season, and will their behaviors change like this even without a female present?
PIctures are of Larry from last year, and when we had to quickly transport him to the tornado shelter!
