When it's 104*F outside....

i dont meen to be an echo in the room, but summoner what is the black foam your using as vines shown in your picture? and where could i get my hands on some?

It is soaker hose. You can get soaker hose at Lowe's, Home Depot, OSH, or most home improvement stores. Be sure to cut the hose fitting ends off, they have lead in them.

109* in Redondo Beach

Believe it or not! I came home early because 3 of my pathers were out side. Two of them were orange/yellow and gaping, the other was hiding down in the potted plant staying cool. Wow, who would have guessed when the weatherman predicted 89* today?

109?!?!?! SHEESH!

Not sure what it is at home right now and renee isn't home till 4pmish.... I have the misters running for 30 minutes every 30 minutes.

I put my misters on outside at 7:00am before heading to work. I have a valve to control output. So I toned down the spray rate, since I probable won't be turn them off til sundown today. Parsons were at mid range last night (5 to 6 feet off ground), and seemed relaxed, and feeding well. I expected to see a few guys down in the planters, spread out in the cool moist soil. But all where up in the branches.

Steve, seriously, it sounds like you're catching something. You should REALLY consider taking the rest of the day off to feel better....

They all seem fine. Were back to normal colors as soon as I misted down their cages, hourly for the last 4 hours. We never get weather like this! Hopefully not again for a while. Supposed to be 78 tomorrow.

I did that 3 days last week. I think thing are under control. Had all the auto-lights out in the garage today, to keep thing cool.

They all of you are the chams ok? Kevin, Steve, Tylene please let me know all it well.
Everybody is okay. Had my son feed everybody after school, and report back to me. All the babies are inside, and safe.

On a side note: I found a katydid inside the garage, along with a few other out side bugs. Guess their heading inside to beat the heat. Or maybe the katydid's I'm keeping caged are attracting others.

I came home from work early to check on the chams outside. I wasn't sure what to expect, after all, it was 111 here. To my great surprise, all were fine, no signs of overheating. None were even panting.
I had done a mister check a couple days ago and the misters were on today for about 6 hours. It definitely worked.
It is supposed to cool down tomorrow, but I am not holding my breath on this.

Made it through today

Here is what the boys went through today (The 56.6* temp is from a few days ago, but the high is from today ):

Misting does wonders! Especially in this climate. And the chams are smart, they go for the water to cool down. Yesterday, later in the afternoon when I checked on the boys they had moved to positions directly under the falling mist.

These nozzles I added to the cages really help drive the temps down in the entire cage.
