When the power goes out.....

So what do you guys do when the power goes out? Especially those in cold climates?! Today the power went out at my apartment complex when I was home for lunch. At first I thought there might have been a mix up with the bill:rolleyes:. I grabbed the last bill I had and went to my car to drive back to work. As I backed out of my garage I clicked the clicker to close it and it wouldn't close... It became obvious the power was out everywhere..... not just my place.

So what happens when you lose power and there isn't anything you can do about it? I know some people on this forum have a LOT of chameleons. I am sure this could be devastating in some regions of the country.

Since I am in socal and today was a nice day I let Jake out into my in door ficus and left Fred in his cage. I opened all the blinds and windows so the air would flow and natural light would eliminate Fred's cage.

I have a pretty large number of chameleons. I live in IL so it gets really cold here. But I have a gas generator. Pretty pricey, but im sure it will come in use. Ever since I bought it a year ago, I have not had to use it.

I am from Chicago. I know how cold it can be lol! I remember a couple of times the power going out here and there as I grew up. I don't know if you remember the nasty ice storm we had there in 94. Man.... it rained like crazy... the temps started dropping and ice started forming on EVERYTHING... power lines just started breaking.. oh man!:eek: I remember having both fireplaces going... neither of them heated the house... just a 10 foot radius from the fire:rolleyes:.

I remember before it started raining there was already snow on the ground. In our backyard the rain made a thick sheet of ice over the snow... then it snowed... we were able to shovel the snow off the ice and slide around without breaking through. BTW I was 12 and my brother was 10.

I would deff. buy a generator if I moved back!

I remember that, and in dec 06 it happend again but alot worse. I lost power for 3 weeks. My dad gave up his gen. for me then and we all slept in the basement between chameleon cages. So after that I did my dad the favor of buying my own. But of couse will never need it now.
