When to upgrade?

My Ambilobe Panther is 5 months and I'm just wondering when he's ready for his new home. I have a 6x2x2 waiting for him. I assumed he would be in his little set up longer but all the crickets come too him and I don't want him getting fat and lazy! Any guess on when he will be ready for the big home? Thanks

You could always put the cage in the new cage. Else if he can find the food and water you can put him as big as a cage as you want.

Bear in mind that in a few months he will start his last growth spurt and be mowing down up to 2 dozen crickets a day. That might be hard to manage without a hanging 2 liter feeder or something. Once he is 10-12 months the food intake will drop to just a few feeders every few days. My 4 year old oust which is double the weight of a panther is down to 2 queen dubias a week, or 3 supers one day and a queen another day. But during the last growth spurt it was literally 3 dozen crickets day for a solid month. He ate a 1000 count box of mediums in a month a 9 months.

In the wild, they have a forest to roam through. Whatever space you can provide an animal above the size of a hatchling you should. Make sure your feeders are in a visible and accessible feeder up and the animal will find them. Easy to count their intake too if you do it right.

Great point. I do want him to get a little bigger just because I want him to be off small crickets for the bigger incloser. It is homemade but I do want to make sure it is perfectly cricket proof!

Your boy looks great!! I agree with old Chamkeeper. As long as he can find his food I'd say move him in.
You can also try cup feeding along with free range feeding. Setup a couple feeding stations around the cage.
But I'd say in the first week of his new cage really pay attention and make sure he's eating. Just to be safe. But I think he will be fine. He appears extremely healthy so I'm sure the transfer will be just fine.

Sorry to "hijack", but I am new and notice you mentioned growth spurts and eating more. Could you please share the increments that these happen so I make sure my little guy gets enough to eat. He is a three month old Ambilobe Panther Chameleon. Thanks.
