When to Upgrade

My female panther cham is approximately 4 mo old, and she is in a 16x16x30 screen enclosure. When should I upgrade to a larger size and how large should I go? I know that going to large isn't necessarily the best thing.

As long as its able to climb freely and have lots of branches and places to explore then you are fine. Until she gets big enough i would upgrade to a wider cage. Never use glass cages it could cause it to stress due to confusion. They are somewhat like birds when it comes to glass.

Hi, I got my Panther about the same age as yours . I was told to get the 24x24x48 right from the start . Helped save money too. I uses lots of live plants and very little artificial ones. Anymore questions just ask.

With both of my guys I started out with a 18x18x36 cage. I upgraded my first guy to a 36x18x36 at about 7-8 months only because he actually looked like he needed more space to me based off his behavior. It got to the point to where he basically could only explore up and down. Once I went bigger he could now explore up down left and right again and boy was he happy! He had become a whole new chameleon! My new guy is 4/4.5 months now and I'll probably end up doing the same with him. The best part is decorating with all that space. Your creativity is limitless so have fun with it!!

My male regularly goes on walkabouts, and definitely appreciates having space. The only time I ever catch my female moving is when there's food to be had, and then she makes a beeline for it... and stays wherever she last ate!
