Where to fin Dubias?

so i have been thinking for getting dubias a lot recently. since cooper is getting bigger he needs bigger food. and lately i have been trying to really expand his variety of food, Superworms, Horn Worms, Wax Worms, ETC but everywhere i checked they had no dubias. and my crickets are always chirping and are pretty nasty smelling. What do i need for a breeding setup and how much are they?

No substrate needed. They do need something to climb and hind in as well to avoid trampling eachother. Most people use egg crates. Make sure they are paper not foam.

They eat pretty much anything you put in there if the heat is right. Also be sure to provide ventilation or it will get nasty in the enclosure. I feed my roaches (I keep several species) lots of greens as well as fruits for moister. I have roach chow which you can buy from several locations but I don't really use it. You can also buy water crystals.

No they don't jump. People will tell you they can't fly. Those people can kiss my butt (jk) I've had males fly across my room and keep flight for a good amount of time.

I have seen similar things to flying with males dubias. But it's not actual flying. They do hover if they get worked up enough when defending a territory inside the bin. Otherwise in order to "fly" they have to be high up and glide enough with their wings. The thing is they have tiny bodies compared to their wings so it allows gliding easily. But it doesn't actually require any flapping.

As far as heat, I mount my pads on the side, it stops things from getting to hot, and depending on how big the bin is depends on what size you get. You need to make sure they have plenty of space to regulate. They overheat just like everything else, a lot of people think they want constant heat but my guys regulate. I also use a thermostat with all my heatpads, and will never not do so because we have really bad heatwaves here.

They need ventilation. Make sure you give it to them or they will die quickly. Don't feed any animal protein to them especially, and no constant high protein (nothing higher than 22% regularly) dubias are well known for storing uric acid within their fatty organ and is what actually is most likely to cause gout (as far as the high protein kind) within reptiles. They do well with cleaner crews, it will stop the need for monthly/bimonthly cleanings. And egg crates will always be useful.

I never use water crystals, they are useless as anything else but a water source and can be dangerous during certain situations, they can get everything they need as far as moisture with regular fruits and veggies.

@Andee as for roaches and protein, this always has me a little paranoid. i make gutload cubes in the blender that i freeze using tons of different organic veggies, 1 orange or so, and then add seeds and nuts. Not a lot, but don't really measure it out either. Is this cause for concern?

Naw I add seeds and nuts to my gutload. My gutload averages around 18-20% protein and they get it all the time. But when you add fruits and veggies to the mix it reduces the amount of protein... it has to do with math and protein content (I learned all this when I was making my complete dry homemade rodent diet which is now up to 43 items ). I do high protein ancient grains (on a small scale compared to everything else) and then add high protein seeds and nuts, though I don't do it for the protein content I do them for what they offer. I also do a huge amount of healthy spices for insects, herbs and greens.

I'm 100% this was flying. I had an escaped roach it went on top of a tall enclosure I had and it was flying. This wasn't a glide to where it went downwards it stayed in the air and was able to move upwards. At first I believed it was a moth as I was sleeping and heard it banging agaisnt the window then I turned the light on and saw it fly off the enclosure.

P. Nivea, dubia, oxyhaloa deusta, red runners, and gyna lurida. I use to be crazy about roaches a few years ago but I'm just now getting back into them. Some species still creep me out but the patterns and colors on others are beautiful. I too use to believe they couldn't fly. But I witnessed it. They are obviously more active at night and if they have the space they will take flight.

See I don't like most hissers. I will be getting a lesser known subspecies of P. nivea. I will also be doing some other species. But I am not just limited to roaches of course. Too many insects to love.

I'm kind of the same way, i only have orangeheads and dubia atm, but i am thinking of adding halloween hissers. They are the first roaches i thought were pretty cool so i'm willing to wait the extra time for them to reproduce. Roaches used to gross me out a lot, funny how they grow on you.

which subspecies is that? I'm only aware of the giants and these newish yellow ones. I'm assuming you're talking about the yellows?
