Mistking is the best one in my opinion. It's expensive, but worth every single penny. It works great, I love the fine mist, and the customer service is fantastic.

They're very similar system from what I can tell, so I'd go with Mist King because mine works perfectly and Marty's a good guy.

GO GO Bias! :D

That's what I plan on doing. Some of the misters you can purchase out there are great and everything, but for those of us that can't afford the costs making one our selves can be much more economically sound. It doesn't seem that difficult at all to make your own either.

But a humidifier isn't the same thing as mist - it's good for keeping up humidty but does it get things really wet? Remember that chameleons need lots of water droplets to drink from, so unless your system is getting that done, that's not a substitute for hand misting.

To the OP, something like Mistking is fantastic because the basic system, which is $100 + the nozzle and timer, can feed water to upto 15 nozzles. I don't know how many chameleons you have now, but if you have one or two now, who knows if in 6 months you don't have 4 - and all you have to do is get another $10 nozzle for each extra cage. Instead of another system or complicate yourself with awkward custom setups.

Olimpia, at what point did anyone mention this is a substitute for hand misting. I totally agree. I have botha misting machine and a rain maker both made by myself but even these dont stop me hand misting!..... please do not assume that Junior member dont know what they are doing. I have kept chams for five years, all diff types and sexes.

Also yes the ultrasonic humidifier (which trasports water molacules via steam) does get the viv very wet when run over a schedule.... OP there is no point paying the $100 in my opinion you can achieve better using everyday products. The mist kings are VERY VERY good!!! but if your on a budget then go the DIY route! :)

The OP asked about mist systems and the humidifier setup Leeslad is talking about it not a mist system. I've used Rainmaker mist systems and MistKing mist systems and I like both but MistKing's nozzles are much nicer (although more expensive). While many people claim to have been able to make their own mist systems for less money, few, if any, are able to truly match the performance and efficiency of some of these professional systems and I think they are well worth the money.

Chris,

I agree that the mistKing systems are good (as stated above) and i agree that the performance may not be as good as a manufacteured purpose made product however they both have EXACTLY the saem desired effect!!!

Woah how curious, it's only when I hit advanced reply that I see half of your post? How strange, Can everyone else see the last 2 sentences of this paragraph, about the experience? How weird, must be a glitch on my computer or something...

I never assumed that, I don't even look at member statuses or any of that stuff. It's just that in all the time I've had chameleons, I never had them as healthy and as well hydrated as they've been with their mistking. I tried all sorts of DIY projects to make misting, but none of them worked as well or as efficiently as this professional system does. And for me it is a substitute for hand misting, why else would I get something like this? It saves me from having to remember 3-5 times a day that I have to mist them, and sit there for 30 minutes holding a pump at each cage. Especially between work and classes.

But if yours works for you and you can get the cage nice and wet then fantastic! Great for you, I'm glad you found a way around paying $150 for something like a mistking that works just as well. But for me, it's been a lifesaver.

I some how think that if i was a senior member on this forum then things would be slightly different ???? whys that i wonder?

Mine does certainly work for me and has done for a long while. as for the smart comment unsure what that is all about. The forums are here to share experiences not for dictation. Surely you agree that other have different opinions and that your way is NOT nessecarily the correct way..... neither is mine! its what suits the owner.

The mist king does look like a very well built system but if you go look at the misting products page the only manufactured part they offer is the pump. Which for a fine mist is prob the most important part, then the misting heads. The rest of it you can find easily in the automated sprinkler system / Misting products section of Home Depot. I think you play around with the nozzle you get and try to pressurize it as it comes into the nozzles you can produce just as fine a mist. and by doing so reduce the cost of your system.

Having said that. Its nice to purchase things from companies the design them. if you can afford the price of those systems that's great. Not to mention they look very easy to expand, and I'm sure the customer support will know how to expand them. And people have already said they have good service.

Personally i think this can be done for around $50 between petsmart and home depot. I will know in the next week or two as i am designing my own drip system right now. Granted this is not a mister but i believe you can adapt the same system with different fittings. Not only to save money but i enjoy designing and building my own systems. They may not work "as well" as a professional product but more often than not if you take your time, build it right they will get the job done.

On a side note, more pictures is always better, and I think that more stickies would be great. As a new reader to the Chameleon forums i have certainly found alot of conflicting information coming from various posts.

Well, this surely is...helpfull? haha thanks for the opinions guys. If i go with a mist system I will be using a MistKing, if I make one myself, now I know an efficient way of doing so.
Ill be building my enclosure next week. Im going to use 2x2's and some vynal mesh, any recommendations on dims for the cage? to house a baby panther...

Hi Clay,

If you're the guy I met this weekend at the ChamEO and SBCK booth, hello again! I'll be adding the Starter Kits back on the ChamEO website tomorrow. Spending the rest of this evening unpacking from the show. If I can answer any more questions, feel free to call or email. Also, Marty at MistKing will be happy to answer any questions you may come up with.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Hey, ya that was me. Well I was probably one of the people you met this weekend. I was the guy with the sleeve, and working over in the aquarium building. The starter kits look pretty rad, I think I want to build most of my stuff though. I mean, while its a baby Ill want to just pick up a premade cage, but I want to build a 3x2x4 inclosure when its big enough. The mist king is looking good though. whats the prices on those starter kits again?

Anyone have any experience with the Pro Mist 50/50D system? Its 134 shipped, and has a 3 year pump warranty.

Please email for that ([email protected]). I'll give you the show price which is not the same as the website price.

I'll let a bit of info out ...I'm working on getting a system set up that will be complete with a timer... goal is to have it complete for around $99 ... it's still a bit of ways out, but it should give you guys an alternative to the larger pump. I realize that not everyone needs to run up to 20 nozzles. Of course, it will be extremely quiet (may actually be silent, unless you're a bat!), will be able to run dry without damage and will draw very little power.

Jsiddens: ET508 will make mist, however.... if something goes wrong and the pump does not turn off, after 20 min it will heat up to about 600'F... You will need to rig a thermal cut off to it. It cannot run dry and can only be used for 2-5 minutes and then has to rest, plus it's noise is equivalent to a small nuclear submarine, unless you put in the time to optimize every aspect of the installation. On the upside - it's cheap, as there is no motor in it and very few parts.
