Which kind of chameleon makes the best pets?

And have some of the most straight forward care requirements concerning chameleons.

I like panthers for general friendliness possibilities and ease of care. But Jackson's are probably the easiest to tame if you take it slow, extremely slow. But I have yet to have a problem with any maturity aggression or general aggression anyway. They are extremely shy, but once they warm up I haven't met one whose ever been aggressive, though I am sure it's possible. I think it's just much more likely they are just going to be shy. However they are usually wild caught and have more complicated care requirements.

I have only had my jax so far but he is extremely mellow but makes a less ideal pet because of the additional care it requires.

Idk, Jackson's aren't incredibly high maintenance if you get your set up right. They can be pretty much as simple as a panther, just different needs and higher water requirements so an automatic mister is a necessity.

My biggest worry on my Jax is still the temperature drop at night.
While a panther would do fine with just lights off I'm cooling my Jax enclosure with icepacks and frozen waterbottles.
Of course this is easily solved with an AC but I yet have to obtain one. ;)

For next year I will make a new outdoor enclosure for my Jax and he can probably be outside from spring to autumn and I wont even need an AC but I think I'll just get one anyways.

I live in central California so our nights drop to at least 65 degrees every night. We have nice weather though I miss rain.

I say depends on how much time you have in your hand. And what you want out of them. There are great pets in my book. If you wanted more of a handling one I go with the panther
