Which supplements do you use for your chameleon?

I see you still have the wood chips. :(

You really should take a look at the link I posted in my previous post. It breaks down the best way to set up a cage so your chameleon can thermoregulate and feel safe. The fake topiary tree, while nice to look at, offers next to no perches and no cover.

I knew about impaction issues. I didn't really worry about it because he never eats crickets from the ground. He's kind of lazy and waits on top of the tree or now waits on the new branches and eats them when they climb up the screen. If I ever notic him eating from the ground, I'll get rid of them. I do appreciate the concern tho!

I would add more branches also. A live plant like a schefflera or pothos are great for humidity and drinking off. If you havent listened to chameleonbreeder.com podcasts i would really listen to episode 1 on micro climates. Really informative podcasts. Good luck

I use Herptivite once every other week and Calcium with D3 every day. So far zero health problems and Spyro is 9 months old!

I use jewelry wire for my branches, drill a hole and then put them through the mesh. It makes for a strong support system. All you do is twist them at the end. But yes I would add more branches and more foliage, whether real or fake it needs a lot more cover. I also use Reptivite with D3 2x a month for my panther, which would be the same for your veiled. When I stopped using it I had eye issues.

It's still a risk. I have soil so my plants don't die and I cup feed so its ok to have soil and woodchips, but you will have to cup feed.

Trust me you'll want to avoid using d3 at every feeding unless it's a VERY VERY low dose. You may not have seen any problems yet but you will eventually. Would you post a pic of your Cham for us?

Quick question the Miner-all with d3 says for juveniles to use every feeding. Is that not right? So confusing seems like every brand their own recommendations

I can't seem to find the list of ingredients and amounts in Miner-all but I honestly wouldn't take the chance. For reference I did some checking a few months ago and the following list will show you just how much of a difference there is from brand to brand.

Zoo med REPTI cal w/d3 22900 iu per kg = 22.9 iu per gram
Exo terra cal w/d3 32430 iu per kg= 32.4 iu per gram
Exo terra multivitamin 22000 iu per kg = 22 iu per gram
Nutrobal multivitamin 150000 iu per kg=150 iu per gram
Rep-cal calcium w/ d3 400000 iu per kg= 400 iu per gram

If I were you I'd research miner-all to find out where it lies in relation to other brands. I'd also switch to a phosphorous free calcium without d3 at every feeding then adjust your schedule with miner-all accordingly.
Likely no more than once a week, if that.

I think there are three types of miner-all... though don't quote me, two types with d3, I think there is one type with less d3 that is safer to use more often. Though once again I am not sure, so you should probably wait until someone who has used it responds >.<

Edit:

Calcium Min 34% max 36% Vitamin d3 4,400.00 I.U. Manganese 453.66 mg. Zinc 544.39 mg. Iron 136.10 mg. Copper 113.42 mg. Iodine 36.29 mg Cobalt 3.63 mg. Magnesium 453.66 mg. Selenium 11.023 mg.

Check out the avatar I have. That's the chameleon I have.

What are you dusting with? Most calcium with d3 has way too strong of a dose to be using everyday. Your guy may be fine as of right now but eventually problems will occur

Often chameleons don't show serious health problems or intoxication until several months to a year+ in. They do everything slowly.

I use repticalcium without d3 for the regular feedings. I was looking at different supplements and bought reptivite for the d3 bimonthly feedings. How do you guys feel about these numbers? Is 10,390 IU d3 enough for the twice a month feedings for a 10 month old male veiled?

It doesn't say the kind of Vitamin A they are using. A lot of reptile vitamins use a Beta Carotene source (plant based) which a chameleon can't convert to usable Vitamin A. Vitamins start to deteriorate as soon as you open the bottle. I keep my supplements in the fridge and toss after 6 months.

Your veiled chameleon won't need any heat at night unless your temps get into the 40s at night. Also, your perches look to be too far away from the UVB lighting for him to be able to get any benefit. I can't remember the exact distance away, but a ZooMed UVB bulb will put out pretty much zero UVB when about 18 inches away, even a brand new bulb. A 5.0 is pretty weak, too.

I gut load my crickets with carrots, dandelion and spinach (from mixed greens salad mix), cucumber, and the occasional lemon or lime wedge. So hopefully he gets enough vitamin A from the carrot crickets.

He spends a lot of time perched on his tree, and his body ends up being about 4 inches away from the uvb. He goes up there to bask and eat crickets.

It's about time for me to replace the uvb bulb. Should I get the 10.0? He has been healthy growing up with the 5.0, but I'll gladly upgrade to the 10.0 if you think it'll be better.

A chameleon can't covert beta carotene (carrots) into Vitamin A. Feeder insects are notoriously low in Vitamin A. Probably the only Vitamin A your chameleon is going to get is in the eyes of the feeder insects.

On the ingredient list, it says vitamin A acetate. It that a good source? I would hope that the bottle of reptivite with a jacksons chameleon on it contained vitamin A that a chameleon could absorb. If not, zoo med needs to step up their game.

Dandelions and spinach should only be used sparingly, the leaves and stalks have a decent amount of oxalic acid which binds calcium when eaten. I would suggest creating a dry gutload with a multivitamin that contains a preformed vitamin A supplement like I do, so that the roaches/crickets, whatever you feed off and feed it to gives more vitamin A.
