so from what i have read, there are those who love the roaches and there are those who love the other feeders.
i have started breeding my own crickets with success, but i am still trying to get the right number... i had my dixie container of coconut substrate in the cricket container (about 40-60 crix) for about 5 days. i made sure to mist the soil lightly to keep it from drying out and then covered it with saran wrap with air holes poked into it. i used my computer as heat (i now use a black light bulb in a clamp lamp for heat) and the temps were about 75-85F. i started seeing babies within a week! my guess is that there was about 200-300 within a week of when they started hatching. now that its been a couple weeks since, my numbers have turned into about 150. they are eating/shedding well and growing somewhat slowly. i suppose that it could be warmer in there, but i don't really care that much how fast they grow until i start relying on the supply. i only have 2 lizards and should need about 200-300/month at most, so i am in no hurry for 1000's!
