as some of you know ive had sully 5 days.

hes the friendliest chameleon ive ever seen.its almost unreal.he scratches the glass to come out and if you dont he will come all the way down to the bottom of the vivarium door and sit there looking straight at you.
he reaches for you too.either your hair or shoulder.hes always a vibrant colour and never dark.
he only puffs out a little to bask and when he gets up in the morning followed by a funny little shake.:)

when hes out he loves looking around and either sitting or walking from hand to hand but always so chilled and calm.

sometimes when he comes out he doesnt want to go back in.
like ive stated on other threads.i never take him out or bother him unless hes at the front.i stand and talk to him tho lol.

and ive only had him 5 days!

anyone else have such a friendly & laid back chameleon.

Sully sounds like a really sweet boy. It's such a pleasure to have friendly chameleons. All of mine have been so sweet and so friendly. It makes you love them even more. :)

im not speaking from experience but i would imagine it would be more of a joy keeping a friendly chameleon although i was excepting of what ever personality sully had.

personally i dont feel like sully tolerates being handled.he asks to come out and seems to enjoy it.theres no signs of stress so i must say i am a lucky to have him.:D

sometimes sully will scratch at the top and when i open the glass he will then hang upside down and make his way down the bottom, then he will decided he wants to come out.haha hes a little sweet teaser xx:)

i def couldnt be without him now!

They steal our hearts. So glad to hear Sully is friendly and calm. You two will bond even more.

I was really on the fence about whether or not a chameleon could 'attach' themselves to their owner and I've read a lot of different opinions on it. Some people think no, that they just tolerate their humans. Others say they see people as a predator and it always stresses them out to be handled or even to see people for a lengthy time. There's stories like yours where your little guy appears to love being handled and reaches for you. My guess would be that they are individiuals and each have their own personalities. So one persons experience and opinion is going to vary to the next.

On the weekend, I had Pete on his tree in the other room. He often wanders off to explore the rest of the apartment. I went about my cleaning and was doing dishes in the kitchen when I felt something on my foot. The little cutie had crawled from the bedroom, through the living room and into the kitchen and was holding onto my toe, looking up at me. Talk about melting your heart! Came to see Momma in the kitchen so I gave him a boost and he hung out on my shoulders/head while I cleaned. Of course, some days he hisses at me when I fill up his cricket cup - maybe he's moody like Mom too. haha

Our love was love at first sight! :)
I saw him and I melted apart.
My veiled is very friendly too, likes to come out and walk on me. Even if he is hiding, he sees me and comes , I open the door and comes right out. Yesterday I gave him another shower Just like every day while he is on Baytril and until yesterday he always climbed on my arm all the time, no dark colours but tried to escape from the water. But yesterday after 2 minutes he just settled down in my hand and waited. Then we tried to give him the medicine but (he is getting better, so) didn't open his mouth. I had to try the bank card trick and belive it or not, no dark colour,no dots, nothing. It worked well then I let him climb on his favorite tree. Before his bedtime if he is out he could fall asleep on my shoulder, on my head... :)
It is really an honour to have his trust in me!

That's great that he has warmed up to you so fast.
How they were treated before sale (breeder) makes all the difference in the
world in how their temperment will be.
That's why I will only buy chams from small breeders here on the forum who
do not sell them strickly for a living.
These are the people who do it just because they love their chams, and
begin spoiling them the moment they hatch :)

So, it sounds like your cham was already used to being around people and handling.

Yes, when you let them out to climb around on a free range, they NEVER
want to go home!!
I have to fight with all my guyz to get them back in their cages.

When Smidget is out, he will try to hide when he see's me walk by for fear
I will want to collect him and put him back in his cage

your right they all have different personalties.
the good thing is he seems to feel comfortable with me and doesnt find me a threat.i wouldnt say he trusts me yet but comfortable is a good place to start i think :).
just got home from picking my daughter up from school and he saw me and came right down to see me.

so far i have just been leting him walk or sit on me but earlier i let him walk along the back of the sofa while i was sat on it.he loved it,but he wants to come out all the time now.

thing is im not sure how long to keep him out for.i dont want to keep him out too long.the longest hes been out is 10mins.my living room temp is around 22c-23c during the day in the winter.

yeah the breeder did handle him alot from a baby.the breeder lives here in the uk but hes from florida and has been breeding chams for 25years.hes very special to me and im glad i have him.:) hes really stolen my heart.

cant wait till the summer!! lots of afternoons in the garden with a glass of pimms and a good magazine with sully on a tall plant next to me soaking up the sun ;) xx

btw psychobunny your avatar cracks me up everytime i see it hahahaha!!

When he slows down and sits somewhere quietly he's starting to chill down. This may be a good time to go back to his cage. He'll naturally slow down if the light in the room drops toward evening. Even with indoor lighting, if he can see windows he'll sense day's end. Also, if your house is drier than his cage and he drinks alot when returned to the cage he is getting thirstier when out.

I waver back and forth between the "can only tolerate you" camp and the "loves to be social" camp, but I also think a lot about the basic reality of territorial herp behavior (they are solitary creatures that don't live in close social groups. Other animals arriving in their space are either predators, mates or rivals. A friendly human needs to be puzzled out). The worst thing would be to stress a cham because I'm unable to see when I'm anthropomorphizing. I don't feel every cham is that straightforward. So, to me the safer approach is to assume the "tolerant" idea until an individual cham proves otherwise. Then go from there. If the cham starts getting touchy, shy, or reactive it means I've gone too far. We are pretty lucky...our chams wear their hearts on their skins 24/7. We just have to make sure we are interpreting their displays correctly.

My boys are like chalk and cheese, the panther, Ollie, is the most chilled out little cham and a real pleasure to be around, my Yemen, Dillon, is a bad tempered, hissy, snappy, spawn of the satan who's goal in life if to one day tear my hand off, but I have to say I adore them both the same.

my boy is the same way he is so friendly he wont even hiss or fire up at his reflection he will just hide lol

well sully never goes back to his enclosure and drinks.he drinks in the morning when i first spray him then again in the afternoon.

ive not seen him sit and chill when hes out.hes always exploring so i guess im putting him back in too early,as 5mins later he normally wants out again.

i notice he only starts to chill around 6pm every night.1 hour before bed.
