Jann. I remember you were concerned because of the dog. That's great. I'm sure Luie is much happier.
They're real intelligent animals. If they want UVB and they can't go outside they'll go back to the UVB bulb. Had enough? They go roam. Pretty much as they get older the area of roaming lessens.
I noticed up to a year most stay put in around the tree. At one year several decided its time to roam and are all over the place. At around 2 years they stay around the tree. All Chams are different as we all know. That's been my experience over the last 7 years.
One of the biggest things is the all seems to HAVE TO HAVE A WINDOW to look out from. Every Cham I've ever had needs to look out the window. Its pretty funny. I wonder what they're thinking as they do it.

You know the dog is great with both the chams. At first he sniffed them a little but now he ignores them. Luie will sit for hours and look out the window. I will miss being at home with them when I have to go back to work.

When we had the 63 babies and were baby sitting outside letting them crawl around a neighbors cat would come by as well as dogs. The Chams weren't too happy about it but the cats and dogs smelled them and since Chams have almost no odor or definitely foreign odor to the olfactory of canines and felines - they just ignored them.
I feel lucky to work at home and see them be knuckle heads all day. One wanders into my studio to throw things on the floor as he climbs up the bookcase. I was on the phone with a client when I heard all this crashing. Even the client heard it and asked what was happening.

That's so great. What do guests say? Do they have a clue what they're for? He's fine with the fake tree? I'm so sick of dealing with live ficus trees. They only last 6 months and then we have to rotate them outdoors to recover.

I have tons of live ones on the porch and in the yard but have allot of the $20.00 WalMart ones in the house. They love them and I don't have to pick up the leaves.........all my friends know and love my chams.

A fake ficus that size is close to $200 here.
When we have guests I never promote the Chams. Its funny when someone realizes something is moving in the trees.

Go to the back of WalMart by the crafts......all of our WalMarts have them for $20.00 and they are about 5 ft. high.

very cool, im jealous of you all, maybe one day ill figure out how to do that with my chams. How big of a space do panthers need to be housed together? i live in a one bedroom apartment, lol, might be tricky...

He has only left his habitat twice. Once he was here:
and the other time he was just laying on the floor... I think he had just gotten out and was like 'oh shoot, he found me already! Other than those two times, he has not left his tree. even the last two weeks he hasn't left his tree at the new apt.
I will have pics up of the neww range and Henry's new range asap.

I wanted to share my free range setup that I made today. Above I posted pics of a range I setup for Lenny one of my Melleri. This new setup I made today is for Henry. He is also a Melleri.
Here is a pic of his new home without the plants.

This is not a finished project... are they ever. But that is what I was able to get done today.
He has two misting nozzles and two heat lamps. One is 50w and the other is 25w. Since the weather is kinda cool now I might step up the wattage. He was LOVING a 100w lamp I had for him but I don't want him to burn himself.
I would also like to add that not all chams work well with free range. I am doing it for my Melleri because I think they will do better. I sure hope they don't go wondering off. Lenny never leaves his tree.... but Henry has had some instances where he wanders off. But, before anyone should free range, make sure it is right for that animal. Most of the time, if you give the cham all it needs in one place they don't wander off.

Here's some pix, older and newer. The Chameleon Condo is the centerpiece; the first two pix show the Condo some years ago, before it was attached to the rest of the living room with bendy vines, with Saccardo, the late, lamented Jackson's.
Then we have Thaxter, showing that the pink lampshade is Prime Chameleon Real Estate (Saccardo thought so, too).
Finally, we have Thaxter over by the window, just after a Warm Spritz.
I don't find that he spends much time at all in windows (though with 150 telephoto vision, he may be looking out them all day and I just don't notice!).
When Thaxter is particularly active, we lower a board 2.5 ft. tall across the living room entrance, and that seems to keep him contained. Then he won't go much of anywhere for months, we'll raise the Lizard Gate and, next thing we know, he's gone upstairs or wandered into the kitchen.
