Why are the Parsonii Chams so expensive?...

I can think of a few people here that could do it, but the gestation time / incubation times are longgg. (I don't know exacts, but I'm pretty sure they are about twice as long as most). They are just a lot more specific than your average chameleon.

Chuck with Heroic Chameleons has a nice little group so I would expect to see some from him before anyone else.

not to mention as with any rare exotic, they're held as status symbols.

Parsons are so expensive because they can see the future.

Chris i agree with your post, which begs the question: why were they once a dime a dozen, they were no less amazing, or difficult to keep. I guess the price of yesteryear is a tribute to our selfishness and ignorance.

In my opinion they aren't such a good status symbol. There are many other parts in the hobby where you think: "F+ck ! Why is somebody paying several thousand € for a snake/gecko which looks ill ?"

While selfishness obviously has a certain part of the increased demand in this species, the reason they were a dime a dozen was because they were imported in huge numbers (multiple tons by weight). When they were no longer exported, the supply became next to nothing and that was the biggest cause of their price jump.

Just like the pancake tortoise, only I didn't buy them when they were $25 dollars and I'm not buying them now when they are $350-500 lol

The only difference is, if I knew I could provide the proper space requirements of Parsonii I would buy them at the current price
