Why are veiled chameleons so cranky?

Are they just cranky cuz its how they are? It's a bummer. My Ambilobe is such a sweetie.

Veilds are the Pit Bull of the cham world. Def many of them are sweet, but the tendency of a lot of them is a natural stand offish attitude against us. It is what it is. Most veilds are sweet, but if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, and bites like a duck...

Comparing a cham to a pit bull is a bit extreme as well!!! I'm sorry but I would not, ever, ever... buy a pit bull. At least chams don't go rogue on you and try to kill you!! Lol

Although attitude depends on the cham I don't know if id desire to have a veiled due to the possibility that he/she could be mean >.<

Any chameleon can be mean. It all depends on how you raise it. I interact will all my different species and they are all sweet and friendly but I'll have to say my veileds are the sweetest and show the most personality of them all.

This is my theory, when your a newbie to chams all you want to do is handle them because how awesome they are and I think you over handle them especially when they don't want it( I no I did ) and as you get more experience you tend to understand their moods more an no when it is right to, my first Cham witch was a velid was nasty as hell and now I have 10 chams and not one of them is nasty but I hardly handle them, only when it's a must for whatever reason that may be so they get used to seeing me and not being boverd with me so when it comes to it the don't mind so much( no dout there are acseptions )

I can't help but handle my little veiled everytime I open the viv he's out like a shot and climbing on my head :-| haha

I hold mine and take them for walks outside around my pool. I allow them to ride on my head or shoulder. I also stroke them in their favorite spots and I kiss them. :D

Me and my veiled Luie

I really am amazed by this picture of the parsonii, every time u put a picture up I'm envious of you, I can get hold of a parsonii ATM in the uk witch is not a common thing but it's the space issue, just how big does the enclosure need to be? I've read a lot of different things and would like the oppinion of a keeper

First off!!! Pit bulls are the sweetest dogs ever... Bad owners make bad dogs!!! My pit bull loves babys, cats and small animals... Plays with our bunny!!! Don't bash a breed because they are naturally muscular and look intimidating... The IGNORANCE behind breed discrimination is a disgusting thing...

Chameleons seem to just have moods and personalities like other animals... My panthers are sweeties most of the time but sometimes they just wanna be left alone and will hiss at me... Other times they run up my arm excited to go outside (whenever I handle my chams i take them out on the deck to sit in the sun).

If you wanted your veiled to be friendly... Hand feeding, associating being taken out of the cage with good things such as free ranging or a special snacks is important. Also to make a happy chams the most important thing isssss proper care!!! A healthy animal is going to have a much higher probability of being nice than a cham who is in poor health...

....No. Just... no.

Pit bulls are not sweeties. They are animals that have the least tolerance of any dogs. If you want a sweet dog, go buy a yorkie or a chihuahua. People say they're sweet and the next thing you know... It doesn't matter about the owner for this dog. Sure, it might, until it grows mature and dominant... They're animals of territory. And must be respected for that fact. At some point or another, they will attempt to show aggression and dominance over their owner. I will not argue this subject any longer.

Ignorance is bliss eh!? Put the blinders on and keep on trucking pal...

Anyone who raises or breeds dogs knows where aggression comes from... THE OWNERS... I have owned pitbulls my entire life and breed them... None have been in any sort of fights or shown aggression... I keep in contact with the people I sell too, to be sure.

Pitbulls are just demonized right now... Not to long ago it was rottweilers (i also have owned and bred), before that german sheperds and before that dobbermans....

But ya... Chameleons.....

Well it appears I'm not the only one that's "ignorant"...

I've had German shepherds all my life and they are very loyal dogs. Loyal. Pit bulls are not loyal. They are territorial. Why don't YOU keep on trucking pal...

But ya. Chameleons.

I agree I also own a pitbull and she is so soft an she loves my son to bits aswel and is very protective over him so I can tell you now it is the owner not the dog!

I'm sorry but I can only speak from my own experience. Several times. Go ahead and call me a "bad owner" all you want. It is exactly that reason for any other non-territorial dog. But for territorial animals like this, it's just their way. I'm not dissing them, I'm just saying this is how they are. I have raised three German shepherds, birth to death, and they are the best dogs you can find around. Good for you if you have a "nice" pit bull... LOL

Pitbulls aren't loyal???? Lol you are a very funny person... I didn't say sheperds were bad dogs... I said they were demonized as being aggressive... The same as rotts, dobbermans and pitbulls... You say chihuahas are sweet? My friends chihuaha attacks everyone else's dogs!! No matter how big or small... My PITBULL has scratches all over his face from a chihuaha, and he just licked her the whole time...

My personal experience is stronger support than your nonsense comments that don't even back up your position...

You want to believe a breed is bad... Go ahead...

Your comments have shown a lack of education and a major ammount of ignorance... No point arguing anymore... Good day little one...

I'd be more than welcome for you to visit my house and see my dog around a complete stranger and see how see is with my 9 month old son, she's the most loyal dog I've ever had, I walk her with out a lead aswel btw and that's threw a busy town at times, she also comes work with me and sits down next to me unless I tell her to wonder around

LOL. Apparently YOU have shown ignorance. You did not read my last post. I didn't say you said shepherds were bad either. And be my guest if you want to say chihuahuas are meaner than pit bulls. You have no more proof of experience than me. This "nonsense" is the fact of the people who have died from these dogs. It's obviously not about the owner, in this case. Have you been reading the thread? There are plenty of great owners with mean chams. That is fantastic if for the time being you have a good bull. Again, no dis, just my thoughts. Good day to you, little child. I argue this fact no more :D

Back to the thread topic. Terribly sorry for the nonsense discussion, everyone.

My girlfriend takes my pitbull to her veterinary labs and the teacher will go on and on to her how Ballou (my pits name) is the best most well behaved dog in class!! :)

My little sister would hang on his caller and make him walk her about the house!! :)

I guess ill have to make an album for his pictures when I finally get to sit down today Haha.

And I feel so great for you!! As I said to the previous responder, that's great to hear you have a... uh, tame pit bull. I guess... keep up the good work? Lol but seriously just keep the little man that way. ;).

Lol so fighting dogs are born??? Not bred and raised??? That's your position.... Puppys come out killing!!!! Lololol

Chams and dogs are not something I would compare to extensively as to good owners and a good cham... I actually would never compare a reptile too a mamal for that matter as far as attitude is concerned... Dogs were bred for human companionship... For a long long time... Chameleons are only just starting to experience this...

Just fyi... My aunts German sheperd and chocolate lab chase people and bark at them and have bitten a couple people... I dont blame German shepherds and Labradors Lol... I don't know if you can relate what I'm saying... But its work time so I actually CAN'T respond again!!!

I don't mean any of this as a personal attack... We argue nonstop in our family so sometimes it comes off rude to others... So I apologize if anything seemed rude!!
