why isnt my veiled brown?

Ok. But should I be worried that he is not warm enough? Like you said about them getting dark to absorb the heat.... I will do more reading tonight. I bought a book about care and keeping of veileds. I just thought I would ask about the coloring since he used to be more green and I was worried about him being too stressed by something. But he is eating and drinking just fine, and is bright green when he sleeps, and turns more green when he is outside on a plant. I was also thinking... the screen on his enclosure is black, so could he just be trying to blend in with that?

If it's 92-94 and the glass on your window is closed then in my opinion that is a bit hot for a 3 month old. There needs to be a gradient in the enclosure. A place where your cham can thermoregulate & move to a cooler part.

Is the cham trying to blend in with his black enclosure? That's a myth.

They change colors for numerous reasons but mostly due to stress, temps breeding, changes in their environment.. etc..

That's why I'm requesting a pic of his enclosure so we can rule that out.

Chams will sometimes will eat & drink eventhough there is something wrong with them. I'm not saying there's something wrong with yours because some members have chams that are brown all day & they say its normal.

I've read some threads that say oh there's something wrong with my cham..etc, then we suggest taking the cham to the vet. After 5 days they say, oh I didn't take him to the vet cuz he was eating & drinking & looks like they were doing fine. In the end the cham was still sick & you know what happened after. They fake really good.

In the wild they can't look weak so by the time there's something wrong with them it is usually too late.

Also if he's outside and its 120F I would assume that's why he's green.

And if he was in a glass enclosure & its hot, I would assume he's green too because of that.

It's like panthers, they blanch when it's too hot.. They turn a pale color.

When chams are sleeping, they can't control their colors.

Maybe someone here can chime in. Sorry my 2 year old is buggin :D

Well I will get you a pic as soon as i can. When I try to attach it, an error messege comes up. It says that it is the forum having problems. So I will keep trying. He does have a pretty good amount of coverage and it is cooler on one side of the enclosure than the other. I will make a few adjustments to lower the temp. I try not to use the AC too much since it is so hot outside. That way it is not such an extream temp change when we go outside. But maybe if I lower the temp of the house it will help. Is it a good idea for the ceiling fan to be on? It is on low, but it has multiple speeds. Thank you for all your help. I just want to be sure I am making things the best possible for our new addition.

I don't take him out when it gets that hot. Just some fresh air in the morning. And I have only done that a couple times. I don't want to do too much yet. I think he is still adjusting to everything. But he gets fresh air through the back door everyday. It is about 8 feet from him, so he gets a nice breeze.

Hey I've been to Yuma and from what I remember it would be 12 am there and it seemed the sun was still out.. Whew! It was hot!

Isn't it humid there?

Ceiling fan would help to circulate the air if you keep your windows closed.

What's the humidity in the enclosure? Veileds 40-70%.

A lot of the times, what you can do is up the humidity to combat the hot temperatures.

When it gets too hot here, what I do is mist more frequently.

Morning sun & air is really great for them. I would try to keep doing that. You can also open the windows in the day & put his cage in front of it if the sun hits it.

Yes, try to give him more time to adjust as well.
