wild-caught wood

Hey guys,

So a friend of mine is in the process of building a large enclosure for his Chinese Water Dragon. He chopped off large branches off a tree nearby his house. He was wondering if it is safe to use branches from a wild tree (honey locust).

-he plans to peel off bark, clean in bleach/water solution/dry out in sun, etc.

Any one have useful advice you can give me?

You need to sterilize it. Anything i bring in from outside i first let soak in boiling hot water in a large storage bin. It kills any bugs that are buried in the wood/bark.

Yes i am with the rest of you, i can just see someone running down the street chasing his wild wood. Hope the wood isn't to big or to mean. lol

You're not the only one! Who's chasing what wood?

But yeah, sterilise it first just to be safe (I normally just boil boiling water over it a few times as that will get rid of pretty much all the nasty stuff)

Unless of course you're talking about something else at which point boiling water is a definite no no!!!
