I live in CO and often go to the mountains to camp. Can I catch different insects and feed the to my chem?

nothing that looks like it can fight back. unless you know your cham'll win >_< oh, or anything that looks spiny or poisonous...

Great for treats but watch out. I had a panther that got spoiled on wild caught locusts and mantids. He was a picky eater for the remainder of his life.

Yes. But there is risk associated with doing so. The wild caught bugs could have come in contact with pesticides, they could have recently eaten something not toxic to them but toxic to chameleons, they may carry parasites, and finally you may catch a bug that looks like a good meal but is actually poisionous to chameleons.

I use wild caught grasshoppers (collected on a fallow hay field that's part of an organic farm) every summer. I am confident these grasshoppers dont come into contact with pesticides (at least no more than storebought vegetables that I feed to myself and my bugs in the winter do). I also catch moths, and cabbage loppers.

But I also pay attention to chameleon weight, attitude, appetite, etc, have fecal tests done, and am willing to pay for medications as needed - and I guess that means I'm willing to put the chameleon through dealing with parasites and medications.

I feel the benefits outweight the risks for me. Only you can determine if this is right for you and your chameleon.
