So today I got a bearded dragon in the mail. His enclosure has been up and lit via timer for a few weeks prior. My vields Viv is about 8-10 ft away. I put the beardy in his enclosure, went away for an hour or so. When I got back I snuck in and noticed my vieled as dark as I have ever seen him puffed up and staring at the dragon. The dragon was looking back and doing the submissive arm waves. My vield has spent most of the day towards the front of the viv (unusual for him). He actually let me pet him without hissing or shying away, guess the dragon was a good distraction:) Really cool seeing them interact, but worried that this may stress out my chameleon. Should I turn his viv so he cannot see the dragon? The vieled did eat as normal, only change was the anger towards the Dragon invader.

It could just take some time to let the new beardie settle in with your veiled. But it may be easier on both of you to just move either one.

Not much change today, he is still mad. I am planning on rearranging the room this weekend unless things improve. To much involved to do it on a week day. I have a lot of shelves for mister, fogger etc... Beardy enclosure was built to fit in its location, so the Chameleon is going to be moved.

Moving it is for the best. Chameleons are kind of simple minded sometimes and I don't think it likely that things will click for it and it will figure out that it doesn't need to be stressed.

Your post is interesting to me though because I have kept many chameleons near bearded dragons and they never seemed bothered by them. I had a row of chameleon cages about 3' away from a bank of bearded dragon cages for years without seeing stress from the lizards. But lizards all have their own personalities- I can definately see the possibility that it would be a problem.

Anyone remember that version of the "bearded dragon manual" that was out for a couple of years that showed veileds and bearded dragons in the same walk-in enclosure at Sandfire Dragon Ranch? In those days I thought that sounded cool (I seem to have grown out of the desire for "community vivaria" and now wonder at the appeal of the idea), but was pretty sure even then that if a green chameleon ever ended up on the ground it would look really tasty to a bearded dragon!

When we had a beardie our chameleons would freak out at the sight if him. Sometimes when we let him out he would run directly in to the chameleon room and the chams would fire up, puff and generally freak when he came in. The beardie didn't seem to notice the chams but they sure noticed him and didn't like him at all.

Can you simply interrupt the cham's view of the beardie? A piece of cheesecloth or shade cloth between the cages that are set next to each other may do the trick without rearranging everything.

I have 3 sides covered, so I spun the viv for a day or two until I can move the setup. He is still stressed, and is sleeping 4 hrs early. Live and learn:)
